4G Small Cells India,

Mumbai, 19 July 2013

As Indian operators are all set to roll out next phase of 3G development and are also geared up to launch 4G LTE networks – Smalls Cells technology is all set to become an important part of Indian telecom service providers. According to industry reports by the end of 2012, the Asia Pacific region is expected to command 44 per cent of the total small cell market. The small cell shipments and revenue for 2016 is projected to be more than US$ 4 billion alongside 741,000 shipments.

Alcatel-Lucent and Telekom Austria Group complete world’s first trial of new technology enabling ultra-fast broadband over existing copper networks

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and A1, the Austrian subsidiary of Telekom Austria Group, have conducted the world’s first trial of an innovation from Alcatel-Lucent’s Bell Labs that can upgrade existing copper telecommunications networks into ultra-fast broadband access systems capable of delivering video, data and information at speeds of more than 1 gigabit per second (Gbps).

 

British Airways First UK Airline To Deploy Panasonic Toughpad Tablets

British Airways subsidiary, BA CityFlyer, today became the first UK airline to deploy Panasonic’s rugged Toughpad tablets for flights operating out of London City Airport. The Toughpad FZ-G1 tablets, with the latest generation Windows 8 Professional operating system, are being used by engineers and flight crew on each of the airline’s aircraft.

Top tech policy makers meet in Warsaw for world’s leading international regulatory gathering

More than 650 high-level international delegates from the world’s information and communication technology (ICT) regulatory authorities are gathering this week in Warsaw, Poland to discuss the challenges of fostering new business opportunities in infrastructure and service provision in an increasingly interdependent, interconnected , trans-border environment.

 

The world’s largest specialized gathering of ICT regulators and policy makers, ITU’s Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) aims to stimulate debate, knowledge sharing and exchange of best practice among regulators, industry leaders, government policy analysts and other key ICT stakeholders.

The latest update to the ‘Status of the LTE Ecosystem’ report published by the GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) confirms that 100 manufacturers have announced 948 LTE-enabled user devices, including frequency and carrier variants.

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and Surfline Communications Ltd today announced the first commercial deployment of a 4G LTE network in Ghana and, more general, in Western and Central Africa.

Trina Solar supplies 7MW to Ikaros Solar for large-scale project in UK

Trina Solar Limited (NYSE:TSL) (“Trina Solar” or “the Company”), a global leader in photovoltaic modules, solutions and services, announced today that it has recently supplied 7MW of photovoltaic modules to Ikaros Solar, a leading company dedicated to the installation of green solar energy systems, for an agricultural project in the UK.

A large-scale solar system will be installed at Goose Willow Farm in the town of Abingdon in the UK, with the capacity to generate 7.02MW using a total of 24,000 Trina Solar modules with power outputs of 290Wp and 295Wp.

GSMA Backs New Mobile Education Initiative of the Mobile World Capital

he GSMA today announced it is partnering with the Generalitat de Catalunya in the “mSchools” programme, a multi-year, multi-faceted mEducation initiative by the Mobile World Capital Barcelona. The mSchools programme is designed to lower dropout rates, improve student attainment in schools across Catalonia and throughout Spain and, ultimately, to better prepare students as they pursue further education and employment in today’s digital world. This new initiative builds on a successful mSchools pilot programme undertaken in Catalonia by the GSMA and the Generalitat earlier this year and could enhance the learning experience for 1 million students in Catalonia alone.

Northrop Grumman to Provide New Command and Control System for Metropolitan Police Service

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has been selected by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) to provide its CommandPoint™ application as the core solution for the MPS’ new command and control requirements.

 

The framework agreed between the MPS and Northrop Grumman will enable the MPS to use the CommandPoint™ application at the core of its new command and control system, which is planned to go live in October 2015. Currently, the MPS handles between 12,000 and 15,000 emergency and nonemergency calls per day. There are more than 2,000 operators employed to answer calls and dispatch officers to incidents.

Orange and Total have signed a partnership to distribute Orange Money at TOTAL service stations in Africa and the Middle-East

Orange and Total have signed a partnership giving Orange customers’ access to Orange Money services at all TOTAL service stations in African and Middle-Eastern countries where the two groups are present and Orange Money is available, a total of 13 countries to date.
