M Forum Africa Summit, Johannesburg, South Africa, 6-7 August 2013

Africa continues to show the world interesting and innovative approaches to communications as mobile living and digital services become increasingly common. Opportunities abound as Africans increasingly rely on their mobile phones for all aspects of their daily lives, but as market saturation for voice and messaging services loom so do the related challenges. With a focus on seizing those opportunities and overcoming the challenges, TM Forum’s Africa Summit 2013 showcased hot industry topics with some of the best thought leaders and experts from TM Forum and its large global membership.

There were two days of valuable insight, keynotes from TM Forum and C-Level executives at renowned service providers such as Google, Microsoft, MTN, Mxit and YooMee discussed the digital revolution in Africa; closing the digital divide on the continent; affordable smart devices and delivering cloud services; the future of homegrown mobile social networks; digitalizing Africa; and how the digital economy is reshaping the region.

Alcatel-Lucent publishes its first half_year report as of June 30, 2013

In compliance with current regulations, Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced it has published its first half year report as of June 30, 2013. This financial report includes the interim management report, the consolidated interim financial statements and the statutory auditor’s report on interim financial information for 2013. O3b and Glocall to provide ultra-high speed connectivity to Somalia

O3b Networks today announced a major long-term capacity deal to provide high-speed, low-latency capacity to Glocall Telecoms LLC, one of the leading service providers in the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Glocall invests in, builds and manages voice and data networks in emerging markets, leveraging in country licenses and partnerships, to deliver quality broadband & voice products. Through its subsidiary Sahal Telecoms Somalia, a National Telecommunications Licence holder in the Somali Republic, it provides high speed broadband access solutions, utilizing next generation Wimax, and Super Wifi technologies, with a migration path to 4G LTE expected in Q3 2014.

GSA confirms 200 LTE networks are commercially launched in 76 countries

GSA, the Global mobile Suppliers Association, confirms that 200 LTE networks in 76 countries were commercially launched by 31 July 2013.

146 commercial LTE networks were in service at the end of 2012. An additional 54 operators have launched LTE service in the first 7 months of 2013.

Alan Hadden, President of the GSA, said: In this interim announcement GSA confirms that 106 LTE networks were commercially launched in the last 12 months, representing 112% annual growth. LTE is a mainstream mobile broadband technology and is the fastest developing mobile system technology ever.

WorldPay eCommerce transaction volume grows 45%

WorldPay eCommerce reports high double-digit growth, driven by increased transaction volumes and product acceptance.

The eCommerce division of WorldPay, a global leader in payment processing, risk and alternative payments, has today announced significant growth across all product groups with transaction volumes up 45% compared to the first half of 2012. In the first half of 2013, over 257 million gateway transactions were processed.

Morpho inaugurates first data center in Latin America to support mobile payments via NFC technology

Morpho (Safran), a leading supplier of high-tech solutions in security, mobility and payment, has just opened in Taubaté, São Paulo, Latin America’s first data center for Trusted Service Management (TSM) technology. The unit, which represents a part of the 3.5 million euros to be invested in Brazil, will provide the infrastructure for all businesses that need secure and convenient electronic mobile payment solutions via NFC, including banks, telecom operators and public transportation.

Ministry of Justice invests £1.5 million via G-Cloud with Jadu

Leading UK SME collaborates with Government to create new digital exemplar service

A new digital service, developed by Jadu and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to simplify processes within Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS), has been launched. The new £1.5 million system has been created in order to speed up the Employment Tribunals end-to-end process.

The State of Spectrum in Latin America: Only 20% of 2015 ITU Target Allocation


4G Americas announced today the publication of Analysis of ITU Spectrum Recommendations in the Latin America Region: Understanding Spectrum Allocations and Utilization, which dissects the current status of spectrum available in 19 countries in Latin America compared to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) recommendations to accommodate the surge in mobile network traffic by the year 2015. The report, available in both Spanish and English, was independently researched and authored by Jose Otero, a leading industry analyst in Latin America and founder of Signals Telecom Consulting. The findings of the research show that only 20 percent of the ITU’s target spectrum allocation for 2015 has been met overall in the Latin America region resulting in a tremendous shortfall of available spectrum.

Orga Systems’ convergent billing footprint makes up 6.2% of worldwide market share

Orga Systems, a leading software vendor for real-time charging and billing solutions, with an international customer base in the telecommunications, utilities and automotive markets, has been included in Analysys Mason’s “Revenue management systems: worldwide market shares 2012” and ranked sixth in the sub-segment convergent billing. In the respective category Orga Systems achieved a market share of 6.2%. In the comparison of revenue management suppliers by region and service sector, Orga Systems has a notable presence in the market, being a market leader in the EMEA region and having an overall presence.
