Tuesday 8 October Huawei and O3b are the world’s first to enable full 3G voice, data and video over satellite Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider and O3b Networks today announced that Huawei and O3b are the first in the world to enable full 3G voice, data and video over satellite. This follows rigorous testing of O3b’s system in the Huawei Interoperability Lab in Shanghai, China. Furthermore, Huawei’s telepresence, video surveillance, unified communication and datacom solutions are also compatible with O3b’s medium-earth orbit (MEO) satellites based on corresponding test results. Friday 11 October Success for the CDN World Summit and the Evolution of CDN The CDN World Summit has successfully reinforced its position as the world’s leading CDN event in the market, as hundreds of visitors filled the Thistle Marble Arch Hotel in London last week. Thursday 17 October Vodacom Tanzania enhances voice, data services nationwide Customers of Vodacom Tanzania now enjoy clearer voice calls and faster data services. Using Nokia Solutions and Networks’ Single RAN (radio access network), Vodacom has upgraded its GSM and 3G HSPA network across the country. NSN’s advanced radio network infrastructure and comprehensive services have enabled the operator to further improve its network capacity as well as coverage. Thursday 24 October GSA confirms 222 LTE networks launched, will focus on APT700 at ITU Telecom World The latest update of the Evolution to LTE report from GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) confirms that 222 operators have commercially launched LTE services in 83 countries. 109 LTE networks were commercially launched in the past 12 months. TransferWise launches world’s first peer-to-peer international money transfer app TransferWise, the international money transfer platform started by the first employee of Skype, has today launched the world’s first peer-to-peer money transfer app. The free app, which is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, enables users to bypass banks and their ‘hidden fees’ in order to transfer money abroad cost effectively and at the touch of a button.
