ZTE proposes first pre-5G concept

ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, has introduced its first pre-5G concept.

 

At the LTE World Summit 2014 in Nice, France, ZTE announced that under certain conditions some 5G technologies can provide a 5G-like user experience on 4G terminals without changing the air interface standards.

 

“With next-generation 5G technologies being deployed in 2020, there were industry concerns over what technologies will be used in the next six years,” said Dr Xiang Jiying, ZTE’s CTO of wireless products. “To address this, ZTE proposes to apply some of the 5G technology on top of 4G to meet users’ requirements.”

Millicom launches mobile education service EduMe in Africa and Latin America Stockholm, 9 July, 2014 – Millicom (Stockholmsbörsen: MIC), the international telecommunications and media company, announced today the launch of its EduMe English service, a low-cost mobile English language learning course that is available exclusively to Tigo’s customers in Rwanda by subscription or on demand. EduMe English is a new and unique way to learn English on any mobile phone, offering the student the opportunity to decide when and where to learn.

European Commission launches its “Connected Communities” initiative Call for local, regional and national leaders to take advantage of new EU broadband funding and support Today the European Commission launches its “Connected Communities” initiative – an umbrella for several systems designed to connect towns, cities, local broadband partnerships and operators to the advice they need to access finance and develop tailored business models for bringing fast broadband to their community. All parties working at a local, regional and national level are invited to submit their concepts and plans for broadband deployment projects to the European Commission.

Arianespace Launches O3b Satellites on Soyuz Mission

Kourou, French Guiana — On Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 3:55 pm local time in French Guiana, Arianespace successfully performed its second launch for O3b Networks, following the successful launch of the operator’s first four satellites last year. With this eighth Soyuz launch from the Guiana Space Center, all successful, Arianespace proves its long-term support for new operators and helps reduce the world’s digital divide. The O3b mission will provide low-cost, high-speed Internet access to the “other 3 billion” people on Earth.

The Alcatel-Lucent South Africa (http://www.alcatel-lucent.com)  team conducts regular employee engagement activities and on Friday, May 30th 2014 they hosted 10 “Bridging for Life” (http://bit.ly/1korLdG) learners from the Ponelopele High School, through the yearly campaign “Take a girl child to work”. 

 

Valued Citizens Initiative’s (VCI) (http://www.valuedcitizens.co.za/about-vci) learners had the opportunity to engage with the team and learn about various career paths such as Pre-sales, Sales, Finance, Human Resources, Communication and Marketing. Our Bridging for Life learners questioned the world of work and how we plan growth in Africa as the second largest continent in the world, with rich diversity, culture and challenges.

The UK’s broadband isn’t up to speed, says FSB In a new report published today, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is calling for Government to adopt much more ambitious targets for rolling out high speed broadband for businesses across the UK. With an estimated 45,000 firms still on dial up, and many more struggling with speeds lower than 2 Megabits per second (Mbps), it is clear that while the residential market may be seeing the benefits of high speed broadband, this is often not the case for the business community.

Launch of Friendly WiFi schem

The Friendly WiFi scheme was officially launched today. This time last year, David Cameron announced that the UK’s main WiFi providers had committed to an agreement for content filtering across all public WiFi networks easily accessible by children and young people. The PM also stated that he wanted a logo for public WiFi providers to use. This logo would show customers that the WiFi is filtered and access to inappropriate content is blocked.

Illinois Rural HealthNet Retains INOC for Advanced NOC Support

Operations Center (NOC) and global provider of NOC monitoring, reporting and support services, announces that it has been selected by the Illinois Rural HealthNet (IRHN) to aid in the design and configuration, 24×7 NOC Support and engineering of its latest fiber-optic network upgrade.  The IRHN is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization of health care providers dedicated to deploying and maintaining a high-speed network to improve the connection and flow of vital information between rural hospitals and health care clinics in Illinois.

Over 50 LTE networks launched this year, total is 318 in 111 countries July 28, 2014: 318 operators have commercially launched LTE networks and service in 111 countries, according to data released today by GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) in its latest Evolution to LTE report. Israel, Madagascar and the Northern Mariana Islands are amongst the latest nations to access commercial LTE mobile broadband service for the first time. 51 LTE networks have launched so far in 2014. The total number of commercial LTE networks is expected to be more than 350 by the end of this year.
