Wednesday 30th November Telekom Austria Group acquires fixed-line operator Atlant Telecom in Belarus Telekom Austria Group acquires fixed-line operator Atlant Telecom in Belarus Telekom Austria Group announces that it has agreed to acquire 100% of the shares in the Belarusian operators Atlant Telecom and its subsidiary TeleSet. The sellers are the private equity firm ZUBR Capital as well as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Atlant Telecom and TeleSet are the leading privately owned fixed-line operators in Belarus and deliver fixed-line broadband, IPTV and cable TV, as well as a video and audio library to their approximately 125,700 fixed broadband and 46,000 cable TV customers by year end 2015.
Friday 25th November IT’S OFFICIAL: JT runs the fastest mobile and broadband networks in the Channel Islands IT’S OFFICIAL: JT runs the fastest mobile and broadband networks in the Channel Islands JT has been confirmed as the fastest mobile carrier and internet service provider in both Guernsey and Jersey by the global leader in internet performance testing and metrics for broadband and mobile networks. Results from all networks in the Channel Islands were analysed by Ookla, which runs Speedtest, the world’s most popular internet performance testing service. Consumer-initiated test results using Speedtest by Ookla confirm that JT has faster upload and download speeds than any of its competitors.
Globecast partners with Vatican Television for UHD satellite transmission of the Holy Door Closing Ceremony Globecast, the global solutions provider for media, has today announced that it is partnering with Vatican Television to bring the Consistory and the Holy Door Closing Ceremony to viewers around the world in ULTRA HD (UHD). These ceremonies take place on 19 and 20 November, 2016 in Saint Peter’s Square in the Vatican City.
Alessandro Alquati, Managing Director at Globecast Italy, said, “Globecast is pleased to confirm once again its leading role in introducing Ultra HD as the next TV standard. We are excited to be one of the Official Partners of Vatican Television and Radio Vaticana, carrying out the worldwide satellite transmission of the event in UHD.”
As part of this official partnernship, Globecast is working closely with Sony and Eutelsat for the production and transmission of these events. Globecast will deploy its most advanced SNG mobile units to trasmit the live HD and UHD satellite feeds that will then be distributed worldwide via Eutelsat’s fleet.”
Thursday 24th November ITU experts review radio frequency aspects related to Internet of Things ITU experts review radio frequency aspects related to Internet of Things Collaborative discussions on spectrum management issues related to the Internet of Things Deployment (IoT) IoT/Smart Cities Geneva, 23 November 2016 Key industry players, regulators, operators, manufacturers and research institutions gathered yesterday to exchange best practices in Geneva at an ITU Workshop on Spectrum Management for Internet of Things Deployment (IoT). The growing number of IoT applications may require enhanced transmission speed, device connectivity and energy efficiency to accommodate the significant amounts of data among a plethora of devices, ubiquitous sensors and/or actuators.
Tuesday 22nd November ITU releases annual global ICT data and ICT Development Index country rankings ITU’s flagship annual Measuring the Information Society Report, released today, reports that the world is getting more and more connected and reveals that there are still huge investment opportunities for the private sector to connect the unconnected.
The Measuring the Information Society Report is widely recognized as the repository of the world’s most reliable and impartial global data and analysis on the state of global ICT development and is extensively relied upon by governments, international organizations, development banks and private sector analysts and investors worldwide.
“To bring more people online, it is important to focus on reducing overall socio-economic inequalities,” said ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao. “Education and income levels are strong determinants of whether or not people use the Internet. ICTs will be essential in meeting each and every one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and this report plays an important role in the SDG process. Without measurement and reporting, we cannot track the progress being made and identify areas that require action, and this is why ITU gathers data and publishes this important report every year.”

Tuesday 8th November Interoute opens for business in Miami to address strategic Americas demand Interoute, owner operator of a global cloud services platform and one of Europe’s largest networks, today announced that it has opened a new core location in Miami. The new Point of Presence (PoP) expands the reach of Interoute’s platform for all Interoute customers with a fourth location in the Americas region. Building on Interoute’s existing U.S. presence in New York, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, the new Miami site delivers high capacity connectivity and unified communications services for the South Eastern U.S., as well as serving as an important hub for South America.
