Convergys Supported Football Fever for Vodacom South Africa

(Cincinnati & Midrand, South Africa; September 28, 2010) – Convergys supported football fever for the wholesale subscribers of Vodacom South Africa. Thanks to a successful upgrade to Convergys Rating and Billing Manager, Vodacom was able to launch a range of new football-themed products and services before the start of the world’s most-anticipated international football (soccer) competition, which took place June 11 to July 11 in South Africa. This international competition is the most widely viewed sporting event across the globe and attracted over 700 million viewers worldwide for the final 2010 match.

Convergys Corporation (NYSE: CVG), a global leader in relationship management, completed Vodacom South Africa’s upgrade to Convergys Rating and Billing Manager and the “go-live” of some 3.5 million postpaid wholesale wireless subscribers on the system. Convergys completed its solution implementation on time and at the agreed price, enabling Vodacom South Africa to deliver on its football tournament strategy.

Vodacom South Africa, a Convergys client since 2001 and part of the Vodacom Group, a leading African communications group providing mobile communications and related services, is already realizing the benefits of the upgrade, which include:

  • Launch enticing new offers and promotions quickly in a highly competitive market
  • Provide enhanced, complex discounting on new products and tariffs
  • Migrate subscribers to new products and services efficiently at any time
  • Simplify operational processes
  • Reduce total cost of ownership

“This upgrade was critical to delivering our product requirements around the football competition,” said Derek Morgan, Managing Executive, Billing Systems Group, Vodacom (Pty) Ltd. “The Convergys team worked closely with the Vodacom South Africa team to make this upgrade a success.”

“With a strong working relationship developed over many years, Convergys understood the importance of upgrading Vodacom South Africa’s Rating and Billing Manager before the football tournament,” said Riki Allon, Convergys Senior Vice President and General Manager, EMEA. “Working collaboratively, we completed a system upgrade, enabling Vodacom South Africa to launch football-themed offers.”
