Copel to offer super-fast broadband in Paraná, Brazil Selects Nokia Siemens Networks’ optical networking equipment to increase network capacity and provide affordable services Copel, the regional telecom operator in Paraná, Brazil, will soon deploy a 3,000 km optical fiber network to offer high-speed, affordable data services to consumers. The operator has selected Nokia Siemens Networks’ optical networking equipment to increase its network capacity and bring down the cost of providing internet access to bridge the digital divide in the state. “Brazil has a low fixed-line broadband penetration of six percent, compared to the Latin American average of 11 percent. Additionally, Copel’s network will be equipped with the photonic cross-connect** technology to reduce the cost of carrying data and ensure network scalability to meet future demands. Nokia Siemens Networks will also provide Copel its optical network planning tool TransNet*** to optimize the rollout, and reduce operating costs and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) significantly.
