Datacert Passport to be Implemented for AOL’s Global Legal Operations

Need for legal department visibility and cost predictability drives decision

LONDON, July 9, 2013 – Datacert, Inc., the premier global provider of enterprise legal management solutions, announced today that AOL Inc. (NYSE: AOL) has selected Passport®, its patent-pending technology platform, to help the company’s legal department meet its strategic objectives.  This will be a global rollout for the web content provider and pioneer, beginning with AOL’s North America operations and later expanding to overseas operations.

This move to Passport marks a major milestone in the two companies’ long history together, as Datacert has provided AOL with legal spend management solutions for the past nine years.  The decision to upgrade to Passport was driven by AOL’s strategic objectives to improve visibility into legal department operations and spend, as well as achieve legal services cost predictability.  In order to meet these objectives, AOL required a flexible technology foundation that would support a variety of legal solutions needed by AOL today, including consolidated matter and spend management and collaboration tools.

“We chose Passport because we believed it was the best fit for AOL and will enable us to achieve our strategic and operational objectives,” said Jeff Novak, Assistant General Counsel for AOL.  “Datacert has long been a trusted partner to AOL and we believe that Passport’s matter and spend management solution will give us greater visibility into our book of business so we can manage matters and costs more strategically.  Having a systematic approach to make collaborating with our outside firms seamless was also a key consideration in our decision.”

The scope of the initial implementation allows AOL to take advantage of a suite of Passport-based solutions, including Passport Matter Management and Spend Management, the Designer Toolkit to configure and evolve the system in-house, the Collaboration Module to better engage with their outside counsel, and the Advanced Reporting package for better insight into legal costs.
