Dortmund network operator DOKOM21 chooses KEYMILE technology for fibre-optic expansion
Hanover, November 6, 2012 – Dortmund telecommunications company DOKOM21 has selected KEYMILE’s multi-service access platform MileGate to connect up optical fibre lines in new residential and industrial areas. The high-performance, fibre-to-the-home-based communications infrastructure offers home owners and businesses a future-proof data highway.
In the countryside in the two new residential and industrial areas Hohenbuschei and Phoenix-See (North-Rhine-Westphalia, Germany), Dortmund telecommunications company DOKOM21 has created a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, based on KEYMILE’s multi-service access platform MileGate. DOKOM21 laid 200 kilometres of optical fibre cable for this FTTH solution. Since 2000, DOKOM21 has invested around 56 million euros in expanding communications infrastructures in its catchment area and has now created over 670 kilometres of optical fibre routes.
DOKOM21 has already used multi-service access platform MileGate in various projects and has gained in-depth experience in both technical and support terms. Key factors that swung the decision to select MileGate for the two new residential and industrial areas were its efficiency, scalability, high port density and its suitability for exchanges, collocation rooms, street cabinets, or technical facilities room. DOKOM21 used both the two MileGate 2300 and 2500 subracks and the MileGate 2011 micro DSLAM for FTTB network architectures. As a result, it can make network topology very flexible.
One of MileGate’s key characteristics is a hybrid backplane that enables simultaneous delivery of TDM- and IP/Ethernet-based services, resulting in seamless migration of voice- and data-services. MileGate offers a variety of electrical (xDSL, telephony) and optical user interfaces. With this level of flexibility, in addition to installations in exchanges with thousands of subscriber lines, MileGate also supports all FTTx network architectures (Fibre-to-the X). In FTTC applications (Fibre-to-the-Curb) MileGate supplies all services at a high level of port density. These capabilities allow DOKOM21 to cover all the many requirements in terms of communications technology from households and business customers. DOKOM21 uses Next-Generation-Network (NGN) technology in all relevant projects. The NGN communications networks substantially reduce the number of protocols in previously widespread telecommunications networks and use the Internet protocol (IP) in the process.
