Berlin, September 22, 2008. Today, EANTC AG (European Advanced Networking Test Center) and 28 leading international vendors open the largest and most advanced public Carrier Ethernet multi-vendor interoperability showcase ever staged. The participating vendors have verified that their Carrier Ethernet solutions are feature-rich, resilient and widely interoperable. Carrier Ethernet is ready to be the future network service of choice for all areas such as access, aggregation, and backbone transport for operators around the world. The vendors participating in the interoperability test event represent more than 90% of the Carrier Ethernet switch and router market share worldwide1: Actelis Networks, ADVA Optical Networking, Alcatel-Lucent, Calnex Solutions, Cambridge Broadband Networks, Ceragon Networks, Ciena Corporation, Cisco Systems, ECI Telecom, Ericsson, Foundry Networks, Harris Stratex Networks, Huawei Technologies, InfoVista, Ixia, Juniper Networks, NEC Corporation, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel, RAD Data Communications, Redback Networks – an Ericsson Company, Rohde & Schwarz SIT, SIAE MICROELETTRONICA, Spirent Communications, Symmetricom, Tejas Networks, Telco Systems – a BATM Company, and Tellabs. “Carrier Ethernet has grown up. In our fourth interoperability event since 2005, a larger number of vendors than ever before showed flawless interoperability of all established services, proving that it is safe for network operators to deploy multi-vendor Carrier Ethernet networks for business and residential services today,” said Carsten Rossenhoevel, Managing Director at EANTC. “We also witnessed multi-vendor E-Tree service and IEEE 1588 clock synchronization interoperability for the first time, two services that are critical for next-generation mobile backhaul. Testing all areas of Carrier Ethernet in a single event has become a great but challenging job these days; vendors and EANTC spent a total of five person years just to complete this single event. I am happy that we are able to help the industry progress so quickly.” The live event at IIR’s Carrier Ethernet World Congress, Berlin, Germany, includes a network of more than 100 devices and provides proof-of-concept for network operators who want to migrate and utilize next-generation Carrier Ethernet services. In a large-scale hot staging event at EANTC in August 2008, hundreds of multi-vendor real-world test combinations were verified highlighting the current status and the future of Carrier Ethernet networks and end-to-end services. The test specification was prepared in collaboration with the participants and several tier one carriers starting in April 2008 and covers the latest IEEE, IETF, ITU-T, and MEF specifications for Carrier Ethernet services. A number of critical test areas, including resiliency mechanisms as well as Operations, Administration and Maintenance, Mobile Backhaul and Triple Play services support capabilities of the equipment were verified during the hot staging and are being showcased at CEWC. “EANTC’s Carrier Ethernet interoperability event focuses on the issues that COLT sees as essential for the success of business Ethernet services. End-to-end services across multiple transport technologies, E-NNI, and performance measurements are at the core of our business,” said Matthias Homann, network architect at COLT, a member of EANTC’s service provider panel. “The coverage and results of EANTC’s interoperability tests provide us with insight into the whole range of vendor solutions and help us to make the right technical decisions in a fast evolving market.” IPTV, gaming services and end-to-end SLA measurements were set up to verify that the network can carry real, high quality end user applications.
