As many organizations strive to deliver a richer IT experience to end-users and customers, control is still paramount. IT needs to design and fulfil an ever-evolving range of services from traditional IT to New IT and the Service Catalog is the portal through which this transformation must be delivered. The user interface is central to its success as elements such as shopping carts will drive user-acceptance and a simple design environment will enable New IT process realization that goes beyond ITIL, to fulfil a truly consumerized service culture.

According to Gartner, “Business demand is pushing organizations to create and operate catalogs that provide a shopping place for IT services. IT leaders need to know how this marketplace is changing and what capabilities delineate how good a fit the vendors’ offerings may be for their needs.”

A Gartner Critical Capabilities report is more than a toolset assessment. Core functionality is a pre-requisite, so for IT Service Catalog the ability to present services through a portal, automate and fulfil new services, integrate multiple datasources, provide reporting and much more are detailed in the report. Of greater benefit to IT Leaders is understanding how a Service Catalog can assist Users (whether IT or Business) to realize the greatest value – the creation and receipt of new services in a highly distributed world that will drive productivity and performance.

“EasyVista is proud to receive recognition from Gartner, but not surprised. Our philosophy has long recognized that business users influence IT service needs and desired best practices. Our IT Service Catalog is built upon a codeless design environment that allows service delivery through an easy-to-use portal and storefront,” declared Andrew White, EVP and General Manager, EasyVista Americas. “Equally it is not a surprise that many of the ‘big name’ vendors that did not make grade are those most likely to be struggling with legacy issues and resource heavy integrations.”

EasyVista received a “Good” rating, the highest rating allotted within the report. EasyVista was recognized for meeting Gartner’s Nine Critical Capabilities for IT Service Catalog Tools. EasyVista provides a user Interface-rich portal where elements such as a notification bar and shopping cart are things end-users will be familiar with.

The EasyVista Service Catalog offers depth in its functionality. For example, as requests are approved, managers can search for less-expensive alternatives and allocate the cost to specific budgets. The product also has the ability to send alerts when stock levels become too low to fulfill further requests for the same items. Through the EasyVista portal, end-users can see target completion times for individual stages of their request. Service demand reports are intuitive and dynamic, including spatial analysis on regional demand using Google Maps. In addition, integrations with other data sources and tools, such as Software Distribution, Purchasing and Finance systems fully enable service fulfilment.

“Although the report positively evaluates EasyVista, we will not be complacent, as this assessment provides an excellent independent blueprint for improvement. No vendor was rated as ‘Outstanding’ and this has to be EasyVista’s goal,” concluded White.

The EasyVista 2013 release, which can be deployed either on-premise or SaaS, was evaluated for this research. Mobile devices can use an HTML 5 touch aware interface and tablet devices can directly access the desktop version.
