EBS FURTHER EXPANDS PAWA EPG DATA SERVICES FOR DSTV

Baldock, UK – 6th January 2015 – EBS, the leading full-service provider of EPG data for platforms and channels worldwide, has announced that it is providing increased services to African digital satellite TV platform DStv. The new services include, proofreading, editing and scheduling of EPG data for a number of Portuguese channels including: DStv Kids; DStv1; DStv Pipoca; Cinemundo; Trace Toca; TIM; CMTV; So Novelas and TLN broadcast in countries across Africa as well as Dutch channel BVN in South Africa.

Owned by MultiChoice, DStv delivers a variety of channels from news and music, to lifestyle and general entertainment across Sub-Saharan Africa. EBS provides EPG data services for the majority of the Portuguese channels on the DStv service as well as many other English language services.

It’s the responsibility of every channel on the platform to provide EPG data to DStv to enable their listings on the EPG. As the key driver for content discovery, it’s essential that information provided is as accurate as possible. Missing or limited data means that viewers are unable to gather detailed information about programmes broadcast and set-top box technical functionality is hindered. This results in the recording of content and series linking, key sales tools for platforms and channels, being compromised.

EBS provides a solution to this problem by collecting the data for each channel, which is received in a variety of formats.  The data is then added to EBS’ flagship, in-house scheduling application Pawa, checked to ensure all required information is present and edited according to DStv’s specific requirements before being delivered in the format and frequency required, providing consistency and ease of workflow.

Keith Bedford, Managing Director, EBS adds, “We have an excellent relationship with DStv and we’re delighted to announce this latest expansion to our contract. With so many channels fighting for audience share the way that the content is written and presented is vital. The additional technical functionality that enables services such as record and series link means that the EPG has become a vital tool for both platforms and channels worldwide.”
