Economic development in Africa is at risk from cyber threats: More needs to be done to secure Africa’s digital assets and critical cyberinfrastructure

Governments across the continent are making promising steps toward ramping up efforts in cybersecurity. As part of its Agenda 2063 for transforming Africa, the African Union has earmarked cybersecurity as a critical priority as a part of this vision, but 2063 is still a very long way away in a digital timeline. However, the premise of the agreement is to ensure that emerging technologies are used for the benefit of African individuals, institutions, and nation-states to guarantee the protection of data and the safety of the citizens online.
