·        AVP 3000 Voyager receives TV Technology STAR Award at NAB 2012

·        New multi-codec, multi-function video compression and processing platform provides greater performance, scalability, flexibility and efficiency

·        NAB launch endorsed by awards for both Ericsson technology and customer deployment

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has received further recognition as the market leader for content acquisition and exchange with a TV Technology STAR Award at NAB 2012, the world’s largest media and entertainment event. Ericsson’s AVP 3000 Voyager was launched at the show in Las Vegas as part of the brand new AVP multi-codec, multi-function video compression and processing platform. The platform provides greater performance, scalability, flexibility and efficiency for broadcasters and TV service providers. A number of key AVP configurations extend Ericsson’s leadership in live and linear video processing throughout the value chain of content acquisition and exchange to delivery to the consumer.

The STAR (Superior Technology Awards Recipient) Award follows further success for Voyager, after Arqiva’s deployment of Ericsson’s solution for its entire DSNG fleet was honored in the Broadcast Engineering Excellence Awards. The deployment by Arqiva, the communications infrastructure and media services company, provided the ability to broadcast from any location using the power of a MPEG-4 AVC 4:2:2 encoder with 10-bit precision specifically designed for the high quality requirements of live event television.

“As the market leader for video content acquisition, exchange and distribution, we have a strong heritage in delivering best-in-class next-generation solutions, and the new AVP video processing platform further reflects this,” said Staffan Pehrson, Vice President and Head of TV, Ericsson. “The success of Arqiva’s deployment of Voyager for its entire fleet serves as proof of the power the solution for the acquisition of such critical live content. We are delighted to be recognized with these awards at NAB 2012 following the very successful and well-received launch of the AVP platform, which provides the performance and video quality that operators require to deliver more of the high quality fixed and mobile video services that viewers demand.”

Voyager is the market leading DSNG platform that is now equipped for the multi-platform, multi-screen world and is the only product to offer a hot-swappable modular architecture capable of supporting MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC and JPEG 2000 video compression over satellite and IP networks.

TV Technology’s STAR Awards are designed to celebrate and showcase the preeminent technological innovations available to the media industry. The Broadcast Engineering Excellence Awards honor new facilities, recognizing innovation, high-quality design and construction.
