ERICSSON SHOWCASES MORE CONTENT TO MORE DEVICES AT NAB 2011

Apr 8, 2011

· New solutions designed to deliver increasing content to consumer screen of choice

· Enables a truly personalized consumer experience with  ‘anytime, anywhere’ TV

· Empowers operators to launch new multiscreen TV services

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) will showcase its television solutions and services for the reliable packaging, management and delivery of content across multiple platforms to multiple devices at NAB 2011 (Las Vegas, April 11-14, booth SU3308). Ericsson will demonstrate how its solutions are helping service providers by turning complexity into profitability and by helping them to differentiate their TV services by delivering the ultimate user experience on the consumer’s screen of choice.

“As the television consumption landscape evolves, we’re seeing viewers demand more content, on more devices and at greater quality than ever before,” said Giles Wilson, Head of Technology, Ericsson Solution Area TV. “This presents challenges to operators all the way through the chain, from the acquisition, through management, packaging and ultimately delivery to consumers. At NAB we’re demonstrating how Ericsson delivers End-to-Endless solutions to meet these needs, whatever the requirements, and how these new solutions and services are enabling the next generation TV experience.”

Visitors to Ericsson’s NAB booth (SU3308) can learn how exciting new developments and new products within the company’s range of solutions are addressing the latest trends and viewer demands with:

Solutions for Delivering More Content: The volume of digital content and the number of end-user devices continue to grow at an unprecedented rate. While these developments present significant new revenue opportunities, managing and supporting them can be a time-consuming and resource-intensive process. Ericsson will demonstrate solutions that enable operators to create, manage and package any content type, file or metadata format from any content source, destination target, and workflow process:

Ericsson will demonstrate a range of solutions for end-to-end content acquisition and distribution for a number of applications including Xport® Time-Shifted Television (TSTV) and WatchPoint® Content Management System (CMS).

NAB also sees the launch of two major new encoding solutions. Ericsson’s Voyager II, the first Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) product to unleash the power of MPEG-4 AVC 4:2:2 encoding with 10-bit precision at up to 1080p50/60 resolutions, and Ericsson’s Multi-format Contribution Encoder (CE), the most flexible and future proof platform of its kind, with the US launch of its multi-codec (MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC), multi-resolution (SD/HD, 8/10-bit) and multi-channel capabilities (3D, hybrid C&D).

Ericsson’s award winning end-to-end solution for 3D content acquisition, management and delivery will be demonstrated, as well as Adpoint Campaign Manager, which enables operators to direct campaigns for new interactive (EBIF) advertisements.

Additional demonstrations include the RX8252 Program Transcoder, which offers highly efficient transcoding with a channel count per chassis density, and the RX8200 Advanced Modular Receiver, providing Grade 1, broadcast quality HD to SD down-conversion.

Efficient Networks: From venue to viewer, Ericsson’s contribution, distribution and direct-to-home video processing solutions enable more than 2,000 broadcasters and operators to manage bandwidth and deliver the best picture quality. Demonstrations at NAB will showcase:

Solutions for HD and SD, including the launch of the Ericsson Multi-Platform Stream Processor (EMSP), the world’s highest density per rack unit (RU), multi-format transcoder enabling support for up to 24 HD or 72 SD MPEG-4 AVC or MPEG-2 services.

Ericsson’s Video Processor Chassis (VPC) and its key encode or transcode modules will also be shown at NAB for the first time in IPTV applications, demonstrating the highest performance HD compression of any vendor.

Ericsson will also showcase its MDN (Media Distribution Network) – a complete solution for the delivery of video over IP which combines a content distribution network (CDN) with Ericsson’s broader TV portfolio to deliver a media centric solution to the growing amount of video on the internet.

Meeting Consumer Expectations: Delivering the consumer what they want, where they want it and when they want it is the fundamental key to a successful TV business. Ericsson devotes an unprecedented amount of time talking to consumers around the world. At NAB, demonstrations of solutions that will power the next generation TV viewing experience include:

The newly launched Media Delivery Management System, which provides seamless multiscreen service delivery to devices like connected TVs, set-top boxes, PCs, tablets, netbooks, handheld devices, mobile, and gaming consoles.

The Ericsson Television Data Warehouse will also make its debut. Data analysis across TV, PC and mobile for both VOD and linear TV enables service and content providers to make more informed decisions about content offerings to subscribers. Endless analytical views of the data are provided via a robust reporting engine.

Also on display will be the Ericsson Converged TV Remote, designed to enable consumers, with a single interface, to control live broadcast TV, on-demand video, Internet video, photos, audio and any media stored on a personal computer or device with storage capabilities. The Converged TV Remote includes a touchscreen so that the consumer can intuitively browse different sources of media, as well as preview and organize playlists.

The Ericsson Hybrid IPTV Solution, which delivers any dedicated linear TV service (DVB-C, DVB-S/S2 and DVB-T) in combination with IP to add interactivity and on-demand services, will also be demonstrated at the Ericsson booth.

NAB attendees can hear from a number of Ericsson speakers during the conference program:
