· Dual Ethernet interfaces for testing within the residential home network

· Innovative graphical user interface for quick and efficient service turn-up

QUEBEC CITY, CANADA, October 6, 2010 — EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF) announced today the launch of the MaxTester DSL, a handheld FTTx tester for field technicians to quickly and easily turn up xDSL services in today’s highly competitive and demanding field environments. The MaxTester DSL is the most universal DSL test solution, supporting ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+ and VDSL2.

Having a solution that consolidates the required DSL, Ethernet and IP layer testing into one handheld unit is critical for service providers to increase their installation teams’ productivity. Specifically designed for first-line technicians, the MaxTester DSL is a dedicated, rugged, waterproof and dirt-resistant solution that stands up to the demands of the outside plant. It provides the desired combination of DSL and Ethernet interfaces, ideal for testing in both the outside copper plant and the residential triple-play environment.

The MaxTester DSL can terminate any xDSL circuit outside the customer premises to check all service parameters during service turn-up. Inside the home, it can replace the customer modem and emulate the customer’s equipment at any Ethernet connection point. Its dual Ethernet ports are unique to any tester in this class and allow technicians to monitor in-service traffic between devices inside the premises—making the MaxTester DSL perfect for service providers deploying both FTTN and FTTH networks.

The MaxTester DSL offers a large 6-inch color, daylight-readable display and simple keypad for easy navigation. In addition, the innovative icon-driven user interface and graphical pass/fail results are truly user-friendly and can be used by both expert and entry-level technicians. Moreover, the MaxTester DSL provides multiple USB ports for connection to external devices such as laptops and memory sticks, making it easy to capture test reports and manage software upgrades.

“As VDSL2 continues to accelerate as a key technology for last-mile FTTx networks, our customers were seeking a powerful and cost-effective tester for their first-line field technicians,” said Étienne Gagnon, EXFO’s Vice-President—Wireline Division and Corporate Marketing. “The innovative MaxTester DSL meets that need and will allow service providers to efficiently and reliably turn up new xDSL services, while minimizing their field deployment costs.”

The MaxTester DSL will be showcased at OSP EXPO, booth 835, in San Antonio, Texas, October 13-14, 2010.
