EXFO Launches New Tablet-Inspired, Automated and Intelligent Handheld OTDR Line

The MaxTester 700B OTDR series simplifies and speeds up daily test routines, helping service providers and contractors build faster, more reliable fiber networks.

QUEBEC CITY, CANADA, Oct 1, 2013 – EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO) (TSX: EXF) today announced the launch of its new tablet-inspired MaxTester 700B OTDR Series, which is redefining handheld fiber testers by making frontline OTDR field testing faster and more accessible with unprecedented end-user experience. This series directly addresses the rising challenges to deploy more fiber faster, and with limited resources and training time.

Inspired by today’s intuitive and high-performance tablet technologies, EXFO’s automated and intelligent MaxTester OTDR series helps contractors and service providers build faster, more reliable fiber networks. The MaxTester’s tablet-inspired design features a large, 7-inch, outdoor-enhanced touchscreen-the largest in the industry for a handheld device, making it small enough to fit in one hand, yet large enough to provide clear, squint-free presentation of results. The MaxTester OTDR series also features an icon-based GUI in a Windows-like environment that can be easily mastered right from the outset. In addition, it’s powered by a full-day, 12-hour rechargeable battery.

Produced by the world leading OTDR manufacturer, the MaxTester 700B Series is genuine EXFO OTDR inside. These instruments feature light and very compact designs at budget-friendly price points with no compromise in quality. The MaxTester series is comprised of three models to cover any frontline fiber test application, from last-mile to access and FTTH/PON. The MaxTester OTDRs replace EXFO’s famous AXS-100/110 OTDR Series, in turn bringing an advanced iOLM application to the handheld market. The iOLM OTDR-based application is powered by Link-Aware™ technology, which combines an intelligent and dynamic multipulse approach with multiple wavelengths-all in a unique and single link view that frees technicians from having to perform complex OTDR analysis. With a two-year track record on the market, the iOLM is a mature and proven technology providing expert-level results at the push of a button to hundreds of users in over 75 countries.

“These solutions are a direct response to customer feedback, reflecting their need for compact, budget-friendly, powerful, yet intuitive testing tools inspired by tablets and smartphones,” said Étienne Gagnon, Vice-President of EXFO’s Test and Measurement Division. “Our new MaxTester 700B Series combines our quality-designed OTDR with a unique form factor to provide unmatched user experience and make daily test routines more simple and efficient.”

EXFO’s new MaxTester 700B OTDR series will be showcased for the first time today, October 1, 2013, during a special product introduction presentation held from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET at the FTTH Theater (Booth #323) of the 2013 FTTH Conference and Expo taking place this week at the Tampa Convention Center in Florida.
