Intelligent Ethernet performance endpoint device providing network-wide performance visibility at unprecedented cost efficiencies

QUEBEC CITY, CANADA, November 2, 2010 — EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF) announced today the launch of the BV-10 Ethernet/IP Performance Endpoint (PEP) Unit. At a fraction of the cost of a traditional network interface device (NID), the BV10 is the industry’s most cost-effective and comprehensive dedicated performance demarcation device that streamlines testing and service assurance throughout Carrier Ethernet networks, especially mobile backhaul deployments.

Network service providers (NSPs) are continuously challenged to improve network performance and reliability while reducing deployment costs and integrating Ethernet-based technology in wireless backhaul or business applications. One of the key challenges in monitoring network performance and carrying out the required troubleshooting is having full visibility across the entire network. To meet this challenge, current monitoring and troubleshooting solutions force the deployment of field technicians to remote sites and/or the use of expensive NIDs. Operational costs associated with truck rolls, combined with the high costs of purchasing, configuring and maintaining NIDs, are making this approach prohibitively expensive.

In this context, EXFO has designed the BV-10 series, a low-cost, easy-to-configure, intelligent, dedicated performance demarcation device for layers 2 and 3, compliant with MEF and IETF standards. The BV-10 can easily be deployed across the entire network without having to interrupt services, offering NSPs an economical alternative for their remote monitoring and troubleshooting needs. With a very low deployment cost and highly intuitive testing processes, the BV-10 can quickly be installed at any number of sites to enhance performance visibility while reducing costly human intervention.

“The complexity and size of today’s Ethernet-based networks demand smarter and more efficient solutions for deploying, testing and monitoring throughout the full network lifecycle in order to truly minimize costs and optimize performance,” said Étienne Gagnon, EXFO’s Vice-President—Wireline Division and Corporate Marketing. “The BV-10 series further illustrates our commitment to delivering powerful, intelligent solutions that address testing realities while respecting operational budget considerations. Offering simple and intuitive monitoring and troubleshooting processes in a low-cost standards-based unit, the BV-10 provides our customers with the visibility and real-time knowledge critical to operating profitable Ethernet services in today’s competitive marketplace.”

Used with EXFO’s centralized and fully integrated Carrier Ethernet testing solutions and EXFO Service Assurance’s fully scalable Brix solution, the BV-10 sets a new standard in end-to-end network performance assessment for the entire network lifecycle. Get a firsthand look at the BV10’s performance by visiting booth 222 at the Ethernet Expo in New York, November 2-3, 2010.
