EXFO Showcases Unique and Complete Carrier Ethernet Network Testing and Monitoring Solutions at Ethernet EXPO

by david.nunes

QUEBEC CITY, CANADA, October 28, 2010 — EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF) announced today its participation at Ethernet Expo New York, November 2-3, 2010, where it will be showcasing the unique BV10 Ethernet/IP Performance Endpoint (PEP) Unit as part of its end-to-end assessment solution for Carrier Ethernet networks.

Ethernet Expo New York is the ideal venue to launch the BV10. At a fraction of the cost of a traditional NID, the BV10 is the industry’s most cost-effective and comprehensive dedicated performance demarcation device that streamlines testing and service assurance throughout Carrier Ethernet networks, especially mobile backhaul deployments.

As well, EXFO will be demonstrating its complete, end-to-end Carrier Ethernet assessment solution as recently implemented by CENX. This service assurance solution seamlessly integrates into the operator’s OSS system, delivering the performance and flexibility to remotely carry both automated testing and live service monitoring throughout the entire network. CENX can therefore collect key performance indicators (KPIs) and continuously assess the service quality of their networks, thus supporting detailed and comprehensive service-level agreements (SLAs). The result is increased customer satisfaction, reduced churn and dramatically reduced test and maintenance expenses. CENX representatives will also be available at booth 222 to discuss how this service assurance solution is benefiting their end users.

In addition to the launch of EXFO BV10, EXFO will showcase EtherSAM, a new test methodology based on ITU-T Y.156sam that is completely adapted to today’s Ethernet services, especially mobile backhaul and commercial services. The EtherSAM test methodology enables complete validation of all SLA parameters in a single test to ensure optimized quality of service. Contrary to other methodologies, EtherSAM supports new multiservice offerings. It can simulate all types of services that will run on the network and simultaneously qualify all key SLA parameters for each of these services. Moreover, it validates the quality-of-service mechanisms provisioned in the network to prioritize the different service types, resulting in more accurate validation and much faster deployment and troubleshooting. It is currently the only technique that allows for complete validation of Ethernet service-level agreements (SLAs) in a single, significantly faster test and with the highest level of accuracy. EXFO is a leading contributor to the ITU in helping to accelerate the turn-up, validation and troubleshooting of Ethernet networks.

Further, on Wednesday, November 3 at 10:45 am, Ms. Sophie Legault, Senior Product Line Manager—Datacom, will be speaking in the panel discussion entitled “Carrier Ethernet Network Solutions: Tools and Techniques for Ethernet Service”. The session will focus on a wide range of options to help service providers gain a competitive advantage in the fast-moving Ethernet market.

“By bringing unique solutions that directly address our customers’ Carrier Ethernet test and monitoring challenges, EXFO is reinforcing its position as a frontrunner in this fast-growing market,” said Étienne Gagnon, Vice-President—Wireline Division and Corporate Marketing. “Having complete visibility into their infrastructure and having the right information at their disposal gives operators the ability to deploy and maintain Ethernet services cost-effectively.”

EXFO’s product and technology experts will be available to discuss the company’s end-to-end assessment solutions for Carrier Ethernet networks and will have the following demos running in the booth: the handheld AXS-200/855 Multilayer Access Test Set, the second-generation FTB-200 Compact Platform, the FTB-8130NGE Power Blazer Next-Generation Multiservice Test Module, the RTU-310 IP Services Test Head, the FTB-860 NetBlazer Ethernet Tester (housed in the recently launched FTB-1 handheld platform), the FTB-85100G Packet Blazer 100G/40G Ethernet Test Module, as well as the BV10 Ethernet/IP Performance Endpoint Unit.

To experience the demos or to speak with EXFO experts, please visit booth 222 at the upcoming Ethernet Expo.
