F-Secure’s Personal Cloud Service has been selected by BT to power ‘BT Cloud’, a new personal cloud service that will enable millions of UK customers to safely back up and share photos, videos and personal files across their mobile, tablet or PC.

BT, one of the world’s leading providers of communications solutions and services, recognised that its consumer broadband customers needed a solution that would safely store and deliver their music, videos, photos, documents, and otherpersonal content. It chose F-Secure Personal Cloud Service as it offered a truly device-agnostic user experience for PC’s, Macs, smartphones and tablets and matched BT’s cloud vision. F-Secure Personal Cloud Service also met BT’s high standards of ease of use, security and accessibility. Most importantly, F-Secure has a track record of delivering award-winning carrier solutions for more than 200 operators worldwide, providing the foundation to forge a truly innovative partnership.

The results of a recent survey, conducted by GfK on behalf of F-Secure[1], highlights the growing importance to UK consumers of personal digital content. Over three quarters (78 per cent) of respondents stated that the content ontheir devices was more valuable then the device itself, with 43 per cent ofthose surveyed, having lost valuable content in the past. Interestingly, 60 per cent of respondents are considering using a cloud storage, synchronisation and back-up solution to protect their digital assets. However, when it came to looking for a provider of a cloud storage solution, 67 per cent of respondents stated that they would trust their broadband provider to safely store and protect their personal content.

James Taqvi, Head of Connected Home at BT said: “Our objective is to offer our customers a superior broadband service. Customers told us they wanted help to keep their digital memories safe and unlock their digital lives through easy access to their files. The idea for BT Cloud was born and we turned to F-Secure to help develop and power this new service.

He added: “We wanted BT Cloud to make it as easy as possible for customers to store and interact with their content. We are confident that BT Cloud will not only provide customers with peace of mind, but will do so with an intuitive and engaging user experience.”

Samu Konttinen, Executive Vice President, Customer & Market Operations at F-Secure, explained: “It’s great to see our Personal Cloud Service being used to develop new services across highly respected global operators such as BT. Personal cloud services are rapidly moving from a supplementary element to a central tenant of any operator’s new services strategy. Customers are looking for a company they can trust to safely store their photos and videos. They want to easilypersonal content anywhere and they want to share photos and videos from their mobile, TV, PC or tablet without fear of loss, corruption or privacy issues.”

He added: “BT Cloud is a compelling proposition to the UK market and I believe it has the power to augment and add value to BT’s current consumer broadband offering. We are very excited to be part of BT’s continued digital evolution.”

F-Secure is offering safe cloud services through more than 100 operator partners around the world and securely stores billions of photos, videos, documents, and other files for millions of end customers globally. Located in five data centres on three continents, F-Secure’s ever-increasing cloud content currently makes up several petabytes of data.

To use BT Cloud, residential BT broadband customers simply download an application onto their chosen device and their personal content will automatically be backed up into their own personal cloud. Their content will then be synchronised and made accessible on any device, anywhere and anytime of theday.
