Edu App Startup FarFaria strikes Partnership to Distribute English Reading App to 12M Chinese Children

China’s leading online learning network, Homework Together, teams up with FarFaria to bring new ELL products to the growing Chinese market

BEIJING / SAN FRANCISCO – June TBD, 2015 –17zuoye (http://www.17zuoye.com/), creator of Homework Together, the leading online learning tool for China based primary and secondary schools, partners with US children’s book publisher FarFaria (https://www.farfaria.com/) to develop a new English language learning (ELL) program for Chinese students. China is the top buying country of digital ELL products in the world. FarFaria downloads increased a 1000x when they translated their popular mobile app to Chinese. The new partnership will expand FarFaria’s Chinese speaking audience even more, reaching 17zuoye’s 12 million users. In exchange, 17zuoye will further capitalize on its leadership in providing supplemental digital ELL material to the exploding Chinese market.

All 240 million of China’s population under age 14 is required to learn a foreign language beginning in primary school and continuing through university. According to China’s Ministry of Education’s National Education Statistical Bulletin, this makes the ELL an approximated $4.9 billion industry. These numbers combined with the continued rapid development of primary and secondary schools in China has been a catalyst for the recent explosion in investment and growth seen in digital ELL consumer products.

Already an estimated 200 million people in China use their phones on a monthly basis to access Mobile Learning content. These numbers are expected to grow at a rate of 36.3%, with Digital ELL apps and Mobile Learning VAS being the top revenue-generating products.

17zuoye and FarFaria are exceptionally well positioned to stake its claim in this rapidly expanding market. 17zuoye has already enrolled over 7 million students in its online learning program. With its recent fundraising of $100 million the company has aggressive plans to expand their reach. A leader in its own space, FarFaria is uniquely positioned to supply Chinese and global demand for ELL eBooks. Unlike other digital learning services, FarFaria owns over 80% of their content and is not constrained by DRM issues. All of FarFaria’s enhanced ebooks are part of an A-to-Z reading level system, which allows for progressive, level-by-level English learning. Books include audio and word highlighting, providing students with a fluent model of English speech by native speakers. Like 17zuoye, FarFaria plans to expand. Partnerships with other ELL providers in Asia, leading Asian mobile networks and OEMs are being explored, and the company has already extended their reach to include service to Samsung’s KidsTime users in the Asian Pacific Islands.
