CYPRESS, CA, November 8, 2010 – MVT Productions, based in Orange County, Calif., was pleasantly surprised to realize that the FOR-A HVS-300HS HD/SD portable digital video switcher they purchased early in 2010 is twice the switcher they originally thought. At a recent corporate function held at the Anaheim Marriott, MVT produced a live HD-SDI feed for I-MAG (image magnification) while simultaneously sending a separate signal to a hard drive for recording.
“While working on an annual summit event for a corporate client, we discovered that we have a dual output feature on the HVS-300HS switcher – it splits the content to two locations,” said George Ayrouth, owner of MVT. “What is headed for the record side of the switcher is not necessarily going on the big screen at the live event. It saved us a lot of time, and it saved us from having to rent another switcher to transmit the I-MAG to the big screens.”
The production company used two HVS-300HS switchers for the event. One switcher was used in each of two halls containing 500-600 people. MVT added the HVS-30PCIN input card from FOR-A, which provides a VGA input, and the HVS-30PCO output card, which provides a VGA output from the switcher.
“What we projected on the screens was the VGA output from the switcher itself,” Ayrouth explained. “With this card, a document like a PowerPoint presentation could be transmitted to the recording signal while the switcher was also transmitting the HD-SDI signal to I-MAG.”
MVT uses its HVS-300HS switcher for live projections at different events on location, as well as TV programs shot in the MVT facility in Santa Ana, Calif. “We shoot three four-camera shows all the time here,” said Ayrouth. “so we use the FOR-A switcher constantly for live acquisition. It makes life a lot easier, especially with the multi-viewer already built in. Also, we can take the switcher anywhere. In a few minutes, we can set it up and feed the signals to it very easily.”
MVT has been in business in Orange County for the past 29 years and has been using FOR-A gear for the past 26 years. “We are very pleased with this recent purchase and we are considering purchasing another FOR-A switcher very soon,” said Ayrouth.
