Accedo and NDS Partner To Deliver End-to-End Solution for STB Apps

IBC, Amsterdam, 7 September 2012 –Accedo, market leading enabler of Smart TV and IPTV apps, and NDS, now part of Cisco, today announced a partnership to enable an advanced end-to-end solution for set-top-box apps and widgets.

This combined solution will enable pay-TV operators to launch their own app store, manage application lifecycle, contextualise content, and monetize apps through a connected set-top-box.

The solution enables operators to author apps, thanks to an advanced open Software Developer Kit (SDK), and smooth rendering of apps through an HTML browser integrated with NDS’ MediaHighway® set-top-box software.

Utilising the NDS Service Delivery Platform, operators will be able to enrich the subscriber experience with applications that are contextual to content being viewed.

The solution uses Accedo’s leading and flexible management platform, Accedo Application Sphere™, which provides a fully customizable front-end user interface with multiple existing applications, as well as a highly scalable and secure back-end system.

“We are excited to be working with NDS on this joint solution,” commented Michael Lantz, CEO, Accedo. “NDS has extensive experience providing end-to-end software solutions for the pay television industry, which enable advanced services. The combination of NDS software and Accedo’s application management experience will be a valuable solution for operators looking to embrace interactive TV.”

“Accedo has unrivalled experience developing TV applications, with a highly flexible proven application management solution” commented Nigel Smith, Vice President, Strategy and Product Management, Service Provider Video Technology Group,, Cisco. “Accedo was therefore a natural choice to partner with us on this solution, which we believe will be an extremely strong proposition for operators.”

Both companies will be demonstrating the solution at IBC. NDS will be showcasing contextual apps at its booth (1.A71). At the Accedo booth (14.361) there will be a rich portfolio of apps showcased on a MediaHighway® powered set-top-box.
