Jersey Telecom chooses ip.access for island’s first small cell deployment

Rolls out residential, business and public access cells In-building not-spots a target for deployment

Cambridge, July 22nd 2013: Innovative independent small cell developer and manufacturer, ip.access today confirmed it has been selected to supply Jersey Telecom with 3G small cells for the island’s first residential, business and public access deployment.

The full commercial roll-out of the service has already started after an initial deployment earlier this year proved to be both successful and highly popular with users.

Announcing the deployment, ip.access SVP Sales and Operations Rob Jones, said: “Indoor coverage in Jersey presents many challenges for mobile operators including the increased usage of metal components in building insulation. By deploying our indoor small cells in homes and business premises we are helping to turn not-spots into hot-spots and deliver the always-on connectivity demanded by the Smartphone generation.”

Tim Knights, the Head of Mobile Networks, of Jersey Telecom said: “The small cells we have deployed so far have been really well received by our customers. We’ve been able to both increase our indoor coverage and also off-load some capacity from the macro network to improve overall network performance and quality.”

The small cells on the island are being supported by the ip.access nanoConverge gateway solution, which enables operators to manage 2G, 3G and 4G small cells from a converged Gateway.

“We have looked at small cell solutions before,” said Knights, “but the entry level costs associated with other solutions in the market have previously made the economics difficult. The ip.access nanoConverge 200 removed that barrier,” he said.

“What’s particularly pleasing is how well the ip.access small cells have integrated into our macro network and we will now be accelerating our roll-out of the service across the island targeting busy and hard to reach locations,” added Knights.

Rob Jones also highlighted the ease of integration of the ip.access small cell solution as key factors in winning the deployment contract.

“We have the experience of integrating our small cell solutions into more than 100 networks worldwide from those just starting at a few hundred cells to the larger Tier One operators deploying significant volumes,” said Jones. “That experience, and our end-to-end approach gives us unrivalled market understanding,” he said.

About ip.access
Headquartered in the United Kingdom, ip.access has been deploying small cell solutions for more than 10 years providing some 100+ customers around the world with the capability to accelerate the introduction of small cell solutions into their networks irrespective of use case, technology or deployment model.

In 2013, the company became the first provider to pass the milestone of 1million installed small cell access points and also announced that it had been awarded more than 40 operator contracts in the previous year alone.

The company’s success is built upon its ability to provide its Service Provider customers with a range of small cell solutions across all technologies (2G, 3G, and 4G), alongside an end-to-end deployment philosophy that integrates the small cell access points with converged access gateways and comprehensive network management and performance tools.

The methodology and solution capability provided by ip.access enables its customers to better manage the economic challenges of delivering against ever more demanding coverage and capacity requirements. This, along with the ease of integration to higher order management solutions and the robust and elegant macro network interaction reduces the ‘cycle time’ from installation to commercial service.

In addition, ip.access has focussed diligently on providing the intelligence and application layer to enable its customers to deliver rapid monetisation of their small cell deployments, driving new and complimentary revenue streams to further enhance the small cells business case.

ip.access counts Amadeus Capital Partners, Cisco, Frog Capital, Intel Capital, Qualcomm, Rothschild, Scottish Equity Partners and TE Connectivity among its shareholders.
