Qualcomm expands its connected health ecosystem with new member companies TBS GB and CHU Limoges

BARCELONA, SPAIN –March 2, 2014 – Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Life, Inc., has grown its member ecosystem through new collaborations with the CHU of Limoges in France and TBS GB in the United Kingdom. The CHU of Limoges (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Limoges) leverages Qualcomm Life’s CE-listed and Continua Certified 2net Platform and Hub to serve as the biometric data connectivity infrastructure for its ICARE chronic care management program in France. TBS GB, a leading health care technology management service provider in the United Kingdom, is also using the 2net Platform in telehealth programs and has already seen compelling results with improved health outcomes and patient satisfaction.
ICARE is a large-scale[1] pilot project that aims to evaluate the medico-social, economic, and organizational impacts of home health technology solutions for at-risk patient populations living in rural areas, focused specifically on avoiding and reducing hospital readmissions. The CHU of Limoges deployed its connected health services in 550 homes in rural regions including Corrèze, Creuse, Haute-Vienne and Loir-et-Cher, where 45% of the patient population is aged 65 or older to measure the benefits of connected health when there is lower access to traditional care services. ICARE leverages the robust 2net Connectivity Platform and Hub to enable seamless remote monitoring capabilities, allowing general practitioners and nurses to stratify patients, coordinate care and keep patients living at home longer.

TBS GB, a subsidiary of TBS Group, operates in the United Kingdom and specializes in the management of health care technology, provides telehealth technology and logistics support to Orla Healthcare, a private provider of home health services, in integrated care pilots in the United Kingdom. Focused on streamlining transitions of care, their first pilot with 400 patients saved 2000 hospital bed-stays, had zero unavoidable readmissions and saw a 99% patient satisfaction rating. Patients in the pilot were admitted to NHS hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH), located in Harlow, UK, but treatment was provided at home with a telemedicine kit comprised of a blood pressure monitor, a pulse oximeter, a telecare device (GPS location system and alarm button) and a 2net Hub to capture and transmit biometric data from the patient’s home to the 24/7 clinical support team. The patient data was visualized using Medixine Clinic, a cloud-based software program that enables biometric data visualization, triage management, and at-risk patient population management.

TBS GB and Orla Healthcare have now extended the pilot to include early discharge of ward patients, transitioning in-patients from hospital wards and treating them at home. This service is unique within the NHS and is made possible by Orla’s consultant led team and TBS GB’s technology solutions enabled by 2net.
