Telstra Global and Easynet Global Services awarded Fitness First contract for worldwide expansion

27 JUNE 2013 – Fitness First, the largest gym, health and fitness club in the world, has awarded a major network services contract to Telstra Global and Easynet Global Services.

The USD$4.6 million multi-year contract will provide Fitness First with a fully-managed Multiprotocol Label Switching Network (MPLS) to connect over 275 fitness centres across the world.

Fitness First Programme Manager Mark Radley said the new MPLS service would allow Fitness First to capitalise on recent strong growth in the health and fitness sector in the emerging markets with key data centres supporting regional operations as well as network management reporting across the global fitness centre network.

“This is a really exciting time for us to move into new markets and to develop the Fitness First brand further and we are looking for trusted partners to provide a robust, reliable, integrated global communications solution,” Mr Radley said

“Our success is underpinned by our ability to communicate efficiently both internally and to our members. The new unified communications solution Telstra and Easynet are providing will improve cohesiveness, collaboration and integration across the business allowing us to provide a superior service as we grow and develop.”

Telstra Global will manage over 100 sites across Asia while Easynet will manage the delivery of integrated services to 160 sites across Europe and the rest of the world. The regional expertise of both companies integrate to deliver a streamlined service with dedicated local support for Fitness First to operate more competitively in each region. Telstra Global owns one of the most technologically advanced global IP networks in the Asia Pacific region and currently supports an extensive portfolio of end-to-end solutions, including voice, mobile, broadband, IP, MPLS and managed services. Easynet delivers innovative network, hosting and cloud solutions with global reach and local expertise. The collaborative approach between the two companies to offer a single integrated solution was crucial to Fitness First as part of its decision-making process.

Easynet Global Services Chief Technology Officer Justin Fielder said: “At Easynet, we have a very strong track record in delivering global IT solutions which meet our customers’ specific business challenges and help them maintain a strong competitive edge. Fitness First is an amazing global success story experiencing rapid growth. Our solutions will help Fitness First retain its position as the most successful health club group in the world”.

“The deal is a great example of a renowned global brand expanding its European footprint and expanding into the Asian market,” said Tom Homer, Telstra Global Head of EMEA and the Americas. “Making the choice to expand operations into a new geographical region is a large investment of time and resources. We understand this and have helped many companies through this process.”

“We worked closely with Fitness First to ensure the solution was a combination of everything required to give them the tools for success when operating in the Asia market. We have removed layers of complexity delivering a complete end-to-end solution, which includes a streamlined and cost effective network. This network comes with the peace of mind that behind the infrastructure is the local support they require, regardless of whether that is within Asia or further afield,” Mr Homer said.
