G4S buys leading offender monitoring technology business

G4S, the world’s leading secure solutions group, has today bought the offender monitoring technology operations of Guidance Limited (“Guidance Monitoring”), a leading international supplier of this technology to Governments across the world.

Guidance Monitoring, which is headquartered in Leicester, was formed in the early 1990s by Malcolm Roberts and John Potter, its current Managing Director and Product Director respectively. The business designs and manufactures a range of state of the art electronic monitoring technologies, including hardware and software used for offender monitoring and tracking. Its acquisition will further develop G4S’s capability to deliver secure people monitoring solutions to customers, both in existing and new markets.

G4S has worked with Guidance Monitoring since 2001, and currently uses its technology to deliver electronic monitoring services to the Ministry of Justice in the UK. In addition to this, Guidance Monitoring has recently won contracts to become the sole provider of technology to the national EM programmes in Saudi Arabia, France and Norway. Guidance Monitoring’s offering includes a full range of innovative products which use GPS, radio frequency and biometric technology.

David Taylor-Smith, Regional CEO, G4S UK & Africa, commented: “We are really pleased to welcome the Guidance Monitoring team to G4S as we have used their technology in our electronic offender management solution since 2001. We believe their market leading technology provides the best platform for future global expansion in the offender monitoring marketplace, look forward to working with them to build this business in the UK and overseas.”

Malcolm Roberts, Managing Director of Guidance Monitoring, commented: “We are excited about the opportunities for our employees and our company through becoming part of G4S, with whom we have worked closely for years. We know our technology will bring many benefits to G4S and its existing customers in the UK and overseas while the opportunity to work with G4S teams around the world to introduce this cost effective and proven technology into new markets is an extremely exciting prospect.”
