Fibre vital for driving innovation and regeneration

London, 11 May 2011 – Geo Networks Limited (“Geo”), a provider of dedicated fibre networks, will be speaking at the annual Scotland NextGen Roadshow on 12th May. Subtitled ‘The Way Forward’, the show will focus on how to ensure Scotland has the infrastructure to expand the scope and choices of services available to local communities, especially in health provision, education, entertainment and business services.

As businesses move into a digital future, it’s time to shift ‘the great broadband debate’ on from an expensive centrally planned big-bang challenge to a ‘village pump’ approach enabling communities to pursue low entry-cost, local incremental change. Issues such as competition for backhaul services, spectrum and information to consumers will play vitals roles in this development and will be key topics for discussion at the show.

At 10.15, Geo Chief Executive Chris Smedley will be participating in the ‘Digital village pump’ panel discussion introduced by Professor Michael Fourman. The session will be discussing how to achieve universal Next Generation Broadband for Scotland, and will also include industry peers from INCA, BDUK and ScoRED Eleven.

In the afternoon, Geo is also co-sponsoring a workshop session on the anatomy and management of a network. Aimed at anyone helping to plan or to lead a local access network project, it will highlight that a successful solution involves many different aspects, such as existing infrastructure, and demographics.

Following the publication of the Digital Scotland and Scotlands Digital Future – a strategy for Scotland – reports, the conference will discuss the Way Forward for Scotland, looking for a practical approach that will sidestep political divisions.
