Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) announces new President

January 28, 2015: The GSA is pleased to announce that Joe Barrett has been appointed as the new President of GSA with effect from February 1, 2015.

Joe has been a prominent participant and supporter of GSA since 1999 and represented both Nokia Networks and Qualcomm on the Executive Committee. Alan Hadden, who has been President since the GSA was established in 1998, will ensure continuity and focus his time for GSA in the new role of Vice President, Research, thus continuing to produce the highly-valued industry reports, information papers and data analysis that GSA is well known for.

“Joe has a great deal of knowledge and experience in mobile communications and has served twice on the GSA Executive Committee”, said Patrik Cerwall, VP of GSA and Ericsson’s GSA representative. “The whole of the Executive Committee and GSA members would like to welcome Joe to the role of President and wishes him every success as the GSA considers new areas of wireless growth”.

“Alan Hadden has led GSA to become a world-class respected source of mobile industry information and the leading wireless industry association for mobile suppliers”, said Stephen Hire, VP of Cobham Wireless, and the member representative on the GSA Executive Committee. “We are very pleased that he will continue his excellent work in GSA as Joe looks to expand GSA’s influence into new industry sectors that are going wireless”. 

“Wireless innovation is impacting multiple industries and GSA members anticipate additional opportunities where they will need to be kept fully updated”, said Joe Barrett, President GSA. “While we need to ensure continuity of the current GSA deliverables we are renowned for, we also need to support existing and new members as wireless communications permeates more areas of our lives. GSA has over 66,000 registered website users and tens of thousands of followers on social media who have come to rely on our reports and data. The Executive Committee expects users and their requirements to increase in the future”. 

The transition will enable Alan Hadden to reduce the amount of time he spends on GSA activities.  

Joe and Alan will be attending Mobile World Congress, 2nd to 5th March 2015 and are happy to meet with existing and potential new members to discuss GSA strategy and activities.

JOE BARRETT – BIOGRAPHY

Joe is a creative thinker with a proven career as a senior strategist, marketing executive and public speaker benefiting from 25+ years experience of advancing wireless technologies into dynamic and fast growing industries, at start-up and Fortune 500 companies. 

Joe has held senior executive positions at Qualcomm Europe, where he launched the Qualcomm Halo™ Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging brand, at Nokia Networks where he was part of the 3G-business team and at Flarion Technologies helping drive the adoption of its OFDMA 4G technology. 

Joe has been involved in numerous telecommunications marketing campaigns and initiatives and has been a regular speaker at industry events and investor/analyst meetings where he has promoted wireless technologies into industry.

Joe holds an MSc. in Marketing from the University of Glamorgan and an Advanced Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
