HGC, bigboXX and Canon Hongkong join forces to launch Cloud Document Management Service

Hong Kong, 22 May 2014 – Hutchison Global Communications Limited (HGC), the fixed-line division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (stock code: 215), along with bigboXX.com Limited (bigboXX) and Canon Hongkong Co Ltd (Canon Hongkong), today announced launch of Cloud Document Management Service.

The three collaborating companies have combined their expertise to create a one-stop cloud-based solution that includes document collection, scanning, index entry, the CloudFolder cloud document management system and cloud storage – all available on a monthly subscription basis. Customers are able to search for, collaborate over, share and store text, audio and video-based files at any time, thereby boosting productivity.

Range of monthly subscription service plans

In-house document management systems typically require hefty upfront capital investment, but the collaborative move by HGC, bigboXX and Canon Hongkong has made such a facility available from a cloud platform on a monthly subscription basis – and with minimal capex outlay. The service also slashes expenditure on technical support and IT maintenance. One significant outcome is that corporate customers, especially small-to-medium sized enterprises, can redirect manpower normally engaged in document management into building their businesses.

This solution offers a range of flexible and scalable service plans. Customers can choose a subscription plan based on numbers of users and cloud storage volume.

Pooling know-how to launch compelling document management service

The three companies have established a safe and reliable cloud-based document storage platform and management solution by pooling know-how in their respective fields of expertise. The cloud document management platform and all customer documents are hosted in HGC’s local data centres. These facilities have been designed according to TIA942 tier-3 grade, or higher, and have attained ISO 27001 certification for operational security. Coupled with abundant local and overseas bandwidth, as well as AES 256-bit encryption technology, the service enables customers to upload, store and retrieve documents in a high-speed and secure manner. In addition, HGC’s round-the-clock customer service hotline team is ready to provide all-round support whenever needed.

Another service highlight is an on-demand document collection, scanning and index entry feature, which greatly reduces the level of manpower required, especially when large volumes of documents are involved.

HGC’s Managing Director, Jennifer Tan, said: “HGC is dedicated to offering a diversity of cloud services. The Cloud Document Management Service not only enriches our portfolio of cloud services, but also widens the scope of our solutions for the business community. Our optical fibre network, advanced data centres, abundant bandwidth and round-the-clock customer service amount to immensely strong support for the service. This means customers can rely on a highly efficient, reliable and secure document management solution with complete peace of mind.”

bigboXX’s Chief Executive Officer, Ronnie Fung, said: “bigboXX has been delivering document management and storage service for quite some time. However, this collaboration with HGC and Canon Hongkong enables us to extend our document management service to cover collection, scanning and index entry. This move not only delivers convenience, but also enables us to further expand the service scope of our document management service.”

Canon Hongkong’s Vice President, Raymond Fung, said: “Canon Hongkong offers a huge range of product lines, from office multi-functional devices, digital printing machines and document scanners to business application software and more. Collaborating with HGC and bigboXX makes good use of our high-speed document scanners and CloudFolder cloud document management system, with the aim of providing corporate customers with a better cloud document management service. The result is that corporations will be able to boost day-to-day work efficiency and benefit from the application of advanced technology.”

Canon Inc. eventually expanded into the photocopying and printing industries, launching Japan’s first plain-paper copier in 1970 and the world’s first inkjet printer in 1985. With over 70 years of experience in imaging products manufacturing, Canon’s global revenue currently stands at US$35.5 billion (as of 31 December 2013). As one of the company’s earliest offices in Asia, Canon Hongkong Co., Ltd. (CHK) was established in 1971. It is responsible for the sales, marketing and services for all Canon product lines in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Taiwan, the Philippines and Mongolia, including its digital cameras, digital video camcorders, printers, copiers, scanners, projectors and other imaging merchandise. Being a responsible manufacturer, Canon became a global leader in 1990 by being the first to set up its own Canon Toner Cartridge Recycle Factory located in Japan, China, U.S. and France, to make sure all collected toner cartridges are utilised as reusable parts in new products. Up until 2012, Canon had reduced the use of new resources by 201,000 tons, and CO2 emissions by 450,000 tons.
