HGI invites Organisations to Shape the Connected Home of the Future
Follow-up Meeting on Smart Device Template comes after Paris Symposium which attracted more than 100 delegates
4 February 2015. Industry alliances and standards organisations are being invited to influence the Connected Home of the future at a special working meeting, coordinated by HGI, that will focus on the definition of a Smart Device Template (SDT) for data models.
The meeting, which will take place in Turin on Tuesday, February 24 and Wednesday, February 25, will begin with a review of HGI’s current proposals for a common SDT that will enable an abstraction layer approach in building the Connected Home.
In order to ensure the widest dissemination and to gather contributions from all quarters, HGI has adopted an Open Source process for this document. Organisations are invited to comment on the document and bring their own proposals for discussion and inclusion in the next version. The document will be updated following the meeting, according to feedback and ideas received.
“Our tenth anniversary symposium in Paris highlighted that many Connected Home ideas and devices from a variety of technology ecosystems are coming to the market,” said Duncan Bees, HGI’s Chief Technology and Business Officer. “HGI’s approach is to help communications between applications and devices by proposing a common syntax and a common set of base modules. We are making the first draft of the syntax available for public review, and I expect that this meeting will provide an ideal opportunity for industry organisations to discuss and debate the technical aspects.”
Organisations currently expected to be represented at the meeting include AllSeen Alliance, Cenelec Eclipse Vorto, EEBus, Energy@Home, ETSI Smart M2M, OSGi Alliance and ULE Alliance. Other influential organisations have also been invited to participate.
APIs associated with the SDT that can be used within a Home Gateway platform will also be discussed, along with reference platform approaches suitable for use by HGI and partner organisations. The purpose of a reference platform would be to support development, test and plugfest activities.
