HKNet Delivers New Point of Presence (PoP) to Accelerate Business Networking in Taiwan

PoP fuels Taiwan businesses’ regional aspirations with fast, reliable and cost-effective connectivity services

Hong Kong – 19 June 2014HKNet Company Limited, a subsidiary of NTT Communications, has strengthened its Asia network with the launch of a new Point of Presence (PoP) in Taiwan. The PoP will enhance the network accessibility and capabilities of HKNet in the region, allowing the company to better support businesses in Asia and beyond.

“Taiwan is an important market for HKNet because of its high-growth potential and strategic location. The new Point of Presence is a testament to our strong belief in Taiwan’s opportunities for networking growth and optimisation. This launch is a major milestone for us and will offer businesses access to HKNet’s high-capacity regional networks,” said Patrick Ng, Executive Vice President, Global Network Business Division, NTT Com Asia Limited, which operates HKNet.

The launch of the PoP comes at a time when Taiwan is expanding its economic role in the region. The 2014 Forecast of the International Monetary Fund predicted that the growth rate of Taiwan’s GDP will top other advanced Asian cities at 3.9%[[1]]. In addition, China is expected to remain a key growth driver of Taiwan’s economy as its largest export market, bolstering opportunities for Taiwan’s businesses. HKNet’s new platform enables local businesses to further strengthen their operations and presence in Asia and also maximise the opportunities from this forecasted growth.

The new PoP allows HKNet to enhance its SecureNet Ethernet service, a carrier-class Ethernet that adopts highly-advanced Provider Backbone Bridging-Traffic Engineering (PBB-TE) technology, providing any-to-any managed connectivity solutions to enterprises. With the new PoP, SecureNet Ethernet not only connects Taiwan to Hong Kong but also to other fast-growing Asian countries, such as China, Cambodia and India.

HKNet will also leverage this new PoP to enhance the cost efficiency of its premium IP connectivity service vIP-Net, while making it a more reliable and higher quality IP platform. It further expands the service’s network coverage with diverse options.

The new PoP will be located in CHIEF Telecom’s data centre, the biggest carrier data centre in Taiwan with Tier III+ infrastructure. This ensures a highly-reliable and robust environment to house the network systems.
