Bangalore, India September 30, 2014: Huawei today announced that the Indian operations of Huawei comprising the software R&D center and the telecom solutions business have completed 15 years. The 15 years journey of Huawei in India has been a dynamic period of collaboration and cooperation with Indian partners to contribute to the growth of the Indian and global telecom industry, transformation of the telecom industry with Huawei’s innovative and customized solutions and services, and localization of business operations.
Connecting India with Localization: Huawei established its first overseas R&D center in 1999 in Bangalore to develop cutting-edge products and solutions for the fast evolving global telecom industry by combining India’s strengths in software processes and quality management with that of China’s expertise in system design and product architecture. Today, the Indian R&D center has evolved as a key platform development center, global delivery center for international markets and a competent center for software quality and delivery.
The platforms and components delivered by the India center have been deployed for majority of global leading operators including Vodafone, T-mobile, China Mobile, KPN (Holland), Deutsche Telekom, and Megafon. The new thrust area for the center is global services delivery, and the India center is being developed as a hub for System Integration and overseas market support centre for operators around the world.
In 2011, Huawei set up its own manufacturing facility in Chennai to the Indian and APAC markets. In 2012, Huawei established the first Global Network Operation Center (GNOC) in Bangalore to manage more than 56 networks globally, including more than 140,000 individual sites spread across dozens of countries. With over 5,500 Indian employees (the largest workforce outside of China), Huawei sees India as an important resource hub to serve the evolving needs of the global telecom industry.
Mr. Wilson Wang, Chief Operating Officer of Huawei India R&D center said “The center has moved up the value chain within Huawei, taking ownership for products and solutions, geographies, emerging business areas, and future oriented technologies.
