Huawei Defines ‘Carrier-grade 4K’ Standard in Video Domain

London, UK, April 30, 2015 –  Huawei presented its ‘Carrier-grade 4K’ standard in video domain, during the annual video exhibition, TV Connect, held in London. The solution delivers an improved video service to users through sharper colors, increased bandwidth, and excellent operations. Huawei also presented a number of other video solutions and facilitated discussions with industry experts.

As users increase their usage of video on demand (VOD) services, and expect a high quality video service, carriers need to continue to enhance their services. The Huawei ‘Carrier-grade 4K’ standard video domain, focuses on improving video clarity, fluency, and the overall operational experience.

The ‘Carrier-grade 4K’ standard in video domain improves the image resolution and supports a higher spectrum of colors, giving a more natural feel to the images displayed. In addition, for live video streaming or VOD, a higher bandwidth delivers images three times higher than that of high definition (HD) video. Both of these areas result in strong capabilities for operators in their video business development.

During the two-day conference Huawei’s theme was ‘Change TV…Change the Future’. In addition to announcing the ‘Carrier-grade 4K’ standard in video domain, Huawei also demonstrated a range of other products based on business scenarios, and hosted expert discussions. Focusing on their ability to redefine the video business, Huawei’s four areas of focus were outlined: increasing the user’s experience; building a content ecosystem; delivering excellent business operations; and launching a next generation 4K set top box.

Demonstrations of the Huawei LTE video solution, convergent content delivery networkCDNsolution, and multiple-system operator’s (MSOs) IP transformation proved that Huawei has strong capabilities to drive operators’ success in video. During a special discussion on LTE video, Huawei shared their experiences with representatives from operators, over-the-top content providers, MSO’s and new publishers. The discussion included business models, ecosystem partnerships, and the various solution innovations for the 4G video industry. In a chief marketing officer roundtable summit, Huawei share their points of view with operators on industry business development, developing an ecosystem, revised business models and cooperation with over-the-top providers.

Through the development of 4K and 4G technologies, each person or terminal can now be a source for video content. The increase in video usage is driving this area to be a fundamental service that operators must deliver.  To date, Huawei is the number one vendor for end-to-end IP video solutions, and serves over 70 operators and 30 million subscribers. At the end of 2014, Huawei worked with China Telecom in Sichuan, China, to launch the first commercial 4K project. This partnership commenced the ‘Carrier-grade 4K’ standard video domain.
