Huawei Redefines FMC at World’s Largest Broadband Event

London, U.K, October 21, 2014 – At Broadband World Forum 2014 (BBWF), Huawei will redefine the concept of fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) through the company’s FMC 2.0 strategy and unveil at its booth a series of fixed-line ultra-broadband solutions and strategies.

The telecoms industry has entered the ultra-broadband age, which marks the transition from the connection-oriented FMC 1.0 stage to the FMC 2.0 stage, characterized by application, cloud and experience. FMC 1.0 alone is not enough for carriers to achieve commercial success because it misses what consumers really want – a high-quality experience. Content is the most neglected element of full-service operations, but it has a direct impact on user experience and is a key factor that determines the long-term competitiveness. To fill this gap, Huawei’s FMC 2.0, which stands for fixed broadband, mobile broadband, and content, puts content at the center.

During BBWF, Huawei will elaborate on its FMC 2.0 strategy and showcase fixed-line ultra-broadband solutions and strategies based on the following industry challenges and trends:

·         The growing ubiquity of 4K resolution video means a need for more bandwidth, but suppliers are prevented from providing rich applications and services due to insufficient bandwidth. In anticipation of a 4K resolution, ultra-broadband boom, Huawei will showcase the industry’s first next-generation SDN-based OLT MA5800 and deliver the industry’s most powerful optical access platform (WDM-PON, 40G-PON, future-oriented 100G-PON access) to build a stable network infrastructure for carriers.

·         In the ultra-broadband era, it is difficult for standard networks to accommodate big data communications and entertainment applications, which is why a cost-effective, high-quality solution that offers efficient delivery is at the top of carriers’ agendas. At BBWF, Huawei will highlight its solution for the evolution of fixed-line network modernization.

·         In response to rising operating costs, SDN technology is designed to bring a new network architecture, new businesses and new opportunities. Huawei’s SDN technology and business solutions, such as the 5th generation optical network, T-SDN, and 400G/1T OTN, enable carriers to achieve, open, flexible and efficient networks.

·         To support future ICT transformation, Huawei will showcase its cloud operating system, FusionSphere, integrated platform FusionCube, as well as intelligent datacenter solutions.
