Huawei Technologies India donates 400 computers to Government Schools in Bengaluru to facilitate digital literacy

 

Bengaluru, 16th Mar 2018: Huawei Technologies India, the research & development center of Huawei announced that it has donated over 400 computers to about 50 government-run schools in various parts of Bengaluru recently.

The computer donation programme was carried out as a part of Huawei’s Corporate Social Responsibility, and in coordination with the Education Department of Karnataka. The computers were installed with free operating system and software required for imparting computer education. Huawei has also roped in an NGO to impart computer training to students in some of the schools where it has donated the computers.

A ceremony was held at the Government Model Higher Primary School, Cleveland Town, one of the beneficiary schools, to distribute 200 computers to 20 schools on 9th March, which was graced by Mr. Tanveer Sait, Hon’ble Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Government of Karnataka, Mr. T G Narasimhamurthy, President of Health and Education Standing Committee, senior officials from the Primary and Secondary Education, Government of Karnataka, Head Masters and Head Mistresses of the 20 schools.

Mr. Tanveer Sait, Hon’ble Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Government of Karnataka, thanked Huawei for donating the computers to the schools, and said that other companies can also come forward and help spread computer education in other schools in Karnataka.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. William Zhao, CEO of Huawei Technologies India said “Bengaluru has grown into an IT hub attracting global technology companies due to the abundant engineering talent pool available here, among several other reasons. It is only befitting to provide the budding students from all walks of life, with the right infrastructure and tools to enable them become skilled professionals and achieve their dreams as well as contribute to the society”.

In line with Huawei’s vision for sustainability, Huawei Technologies India has continuously participated in the development of local communities over the past years. Having identified the need to provide good infrastructure in schools, Huawei Technologies India has built good sanitation facilities for the students in more than 10 government schools, provided desks and benches to a few schools in Bengaluru during last year. Further, to promote higher education and skills development, Huawei has sponsored scholarships for 80 engineering students in 8 engineering colleges and funded setting up 4 innovation labs in several top engineering colleges in the city.
