1000heads creates human hamster wheel to support Nokia’s green drive

SXSW 2011 is entering it’s third and final stage over in Austin, Texas and, as part of its activity with Nokia, leading creative agency 1000heads will be erecting a human-sized hamster wheel at ‘The Green Zone, Powered by Nokia’ from the 16th – 20th of March.

The giant human-sized hamster wheel generates charge for all types of mobile device using kinetic energy created by people running inside the wheel.

Commenting on the invention, James Whatley, marketing director at 1000heads, says, “The giant kinetic generator was inspired by Peter Ash’s hamster-sized invention from Nokia’s “it’s not technology, it’s what you do with it” TV ads from last year. We took this idea even further and created the giant wheel which people can run inside to charge their mobile devices and generate electricity sustainably.”

Phil Hickey, Global Digital Marketing Manager at Nokia, comments, “The Green Zone, Powered by Nokia is our way of delivering even further on our awesome sustainability credentials. The Hamster Wheel, inspired by an invention from our community, is a fun and playful way to add value to the SXSW experience and get the alternative energy message across in a truly interactive way.  Also, if you happen to be in the area on St. Patrick’s Day, we will have a special guest powering the wheel that will definitely be worth checking out!”

There will also be Nokia Bikes (with phone bike chargers) on site to further showcase the company’s commitment towards sustainability.
