IDIRO RELEASES WHITE PAPER ON SMARTPHONE VIRALITY

Document Demonstrates The “Astonishing Power” Smartphones Have in

Attracting New Subscribers And Enhancing Customer Loyalty

Dublin, Ireland  6 July, 2011—Idiro Technologies, a leading provider of advanced Social Network Analysis (SNA) solutions for communications service providers, has released a white paper that measures and analyzes the virality of smartphones among consumers. Included in the report are metrics that demonstrate the virality of specific smartphones, along with suggested acquisition and selling strategies that operators can deploy to ensure that they properly leverage the popularity of these devices. The document can be accessed at www.idiro.com/case-studies.

Authored by Simon Rees, Idiro’s director of sales and marketing, the white paper measures the viral uptake of several leading smartphone devices amongst subscribers in a select number of Tier 1 networks across Europe. According to the study’s findings, two smartphones in particular, the iPhone 4, and the BlackBerry 8520, have the most market virality, penetrating the market at over seven times the expected uptake.

“Smartphones are probably the most viral devices we’ve ever measured, and there are very good reasons for this phenomenon,” explained Rees. “These products are innovative, and as such, draw a great deal of attention for both advanced functionality, as well as attractive design.”

“In addition,” continues Rees, “some smartphone manufacturers, like Apple, already have a great deal of cachet in the marketplace. And when you combine the compelling communications and entertainment features with the visibility and brand recognition of the manufacturers and devices,  it’s easy to understand how the products, in fact, market themselves.”

Along with measuring the viral adoption rates of these products, Idiro’s white paper gives operators several suggestions in how to transform this virality into new subscribers, increased ARPU, or lower churn rates.

“It is my hope that operators around the world understand the powerful opportunity that smartphone technology represents in keeping good customers, and attracting legions of new subscribers,” said Aidan Connolly, Idiro’s chief executive officer. “The key for service providers is to deploy a smart, well-scaled and compelling viral marketing campaign that takes multiple factors into account. The white paper provides this high level of insight into the world of viral marketing, and discusses several strategies that operators can use to take advantage of these opportunities.”
