inexio chooses KEYMILE for broadband expansion in rural areas

Hanover, November 15, 2011 German telecommunications company inexio has focused on areas with poor access in south-west Germany to date. It is offering its customers fast Internet access via KEYMILE’s multi-service access platform MileGate. Residential and business customers benefit with bandwidths of up to 100 Mbps.

Telecommunications company inexio from Saarlouis is investing in Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Luxembourg, Hesse and North-Rhine-Westphalia to set up and expand its own future-proof telecommunications infrastructure.

An optical fibre network of more than 2,200 kilometres connects the whole area via a redundant backbone, with nodes in Frankfurt and Luxembourg.

inexio has the most advanced NGN backbone in the whole area. Because the company has no traditional exchanges, inexio can supply new areas very quickly by putting up street cabinets.

The white spots are one of the focal points of the company’s investment.

Together with local authorities, inexio is connecting up areas with poor coverage and providing fast Internet access. KEYMILE’s multi-service access platform MileGate is deployed in the street cabinets. MileGate allows inexio to use advanced IP technology for data and also for voice services.

Subscribers can still use their old POTS/ISDN terminal equipment and also benefit from new services. To date inexio has set up over 200 street cabinets with MileGate and therefore eliminated many of the white spots.

MileGate combines voice and data interfaces in one single compact IP/Ethernet-based multi-service access platform. Therefore, a wide range of subscriber services is available from one node. Network operators like inexio can supply subscribers in individual communities and towns with a wide variety of voice and data services (POTS, ISDN, ADSL2plus, VDSL2).

Business customers, with the special demands they place, are supplied with symmetrical VDSL2 connections. All MileGate platform components are particularly robust and can therefore be used in harsh ambient conditions (when temperatures fluctuate to a high degree for example) in street cabinets. One of MileGate’s outstanding features is the option of supplying ISDN telephony via an integrated SIP-based VoIP media gateway. inexio can therefore offer traditional POTS- and ISDN-services together with broadband services via a packet-based backbone at an affordable price.

“We’ve been working with KEYMILE for some time already. Some of the key factors in deciding on MileGate were the platform’s SIP capabilities.

Because POTS- and ISDN-services can be used in NGN networks at an attractive cost”, comments Thorsten Klein, inexio general partner in Saarlouis.

“KEYMILE was impressive from the very beginning thanks to its in-depth technical support at all levels. The direct line to a supplier based in Germany has proved very helpful again and again.”
