Infosecurity Visitors Face More Diverse Security Challenges Than Ever

Stand No: F50

29/4/14 – The diversity of the Conference Program at this year’s Infosecurity Show mirrors the sheer breadth of challenges facing IT staff today, claimed Ian Kilpatrick, chairman of exhibitor Wick Hill Group. “The range and nature of threats,” he commented, “has continued to evolve, while the old threats still remain, with criminal and issue-based attackers being both skilled and well-funded.”

Kilpatrick thinks that the working environment is changing at its fastest rate since the early 80s, with mobility and wireless forcing change more quickly than many organisations can cope with.

“Insider threats have become harder to defend against,” he said, “while increased complexity has reduced overall security visibility. Alongside this, regulation and big data continue to demand attention.”

Kilpatrick warned show visitors that despite the shrill claims of some suppliers, there is no single universal panacea for this range of challenges. The sheer breadth of security issues, he stressed, needs a breadth of solutions.

“And for the channel,” he added, “there is a huge business opportunity in security, only limited by an organisation’s total budget and ability to implement solutions. The challenge at Infosec is to pick the good solutions from the overhyped or inferior.”

On show

As a value added distributor, with nearly 40 years experience, Wick Hill has tested and selected a small focussed range of technologies to address many of the current and upcoming security challenges. The company is showing solutions from a number of different suppliers on its stand, including new products and version updates.

From Guidance Software is a range of solutions for maintaining security in a network infrastructure which has more and more endpoints, rapidly increasing mobility and ever growing amounts of data. These provide exceptional visibility into endpoint activity across the network, as well as sophisticated forensic tools, which include the ability to preserve forensic evidence post-incident.

Another prominent supplier on the Wick Hill stand is Kaspersky Labs, providers of products with world-class anti-malware and anti-virus protection.

Solutions on show include the newly launched KSV Lite, which has added support for Microsoft and Citrix hypervisors, and other solutions including Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business, which ensures security across the whole network perimeter.

On the Wick Hill stand, for the first time at a UK exhibition, is ThreatTrack’s new ThreatSecure solution, a malware remediation platform, providing real-time detection and automated remediation of threats that evade traditional signature-based defences.

Also new to a UK exhibition are WatchGuard’s Firebox T10, a powerful small device which lets you ‘protect where you connect,’ avoiding issues of latency created with solutions from many other vendors; and the WatchGuard APT Blocker, which provides real time, advanced-threat visibility for Unified Threat Management and Next-Gen Firewall appliances. It identifies and submits suspicious files to a cloud-based, next generation sandbox, using a very sophisticated full-system emulation environment for detecting APTs and zero-day malware.

A10 Networks has the Thunder TPS series, which has added DDoS to the range of Unified Application Service Gateway appliances. And Check Point showcases its new Software-defined Protection (SDP), a revolutionary, new security architecture that can protect organisations in today’s fast-evolving IT and threat landscape.

Allot Communications is showing its new Allot Service Gateway Tera solution, which provides a unified framework for both physical and service deployment across any access network, serving as a single point of integration for network and cloud-based services. It includes real time traffic management, video optimisation, policy enforcement, application-based charging, and security services such as parental control and anti-DDoS.

Allot Communications sells to fixed and mobile operators, as well as cloud and managed IT providers, with a growing emphasis on the enterprise. Allot’s solutions, based on DPI (deep packet inspection) technology, provide traffic management and optimisation, policy control and charging, security and analytics, enabling operators to develop digital lifestyle services.

Also represented is SafeNet, a market leader in Gartner’s authentication Magic Quadrant, with its latest two-factor authentication solutions. These include SafeNet Authentication Service, an SaaS based authentication platform designed to make two-factor authentication easy to implement and manage. Available as a cloud-based service for enterprises, a cloud service for service providers, an onsite solution for enterprises, and an onsite solution for service providers.

SafeNet supports a very broad range of authentication methods and form factors including: OTP hardware and software tokens, OOB, hybrid tokens and phone tokens for all mobile platforms. SafeNet’s authentication platform supports a wide variety of 3rd party tokens, such as those from RSA.

From vendor macmon secure are modular NAC solutions, which protect the network from unauthorised and unsafe devices, and from internal attacks.

macmon covers different security requirements from the authentication of MAC addresses, to certificate-based solutions in accordance with IEEE 802.1X to the implementation of the Trusted Computing Group’s security concepts. macmon is available as software or as an appliance and, as a solution which does not depend on one manufacturer, it can also provide total protection for heterogeneous networks.
