Ingram Micro (UK) Ltd, a division of Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM), the largest global wholesale provider of technology products and supply chain management services, has formally joined the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF) as part of its wider strategy of launching a portfolio of solutions under the brand of Ingram Micro Cloud.

Ingram Micro recognize the role of the distributor in enabling the reseller community to access a broad range of solutions in a common, consistent and trusted way, and following on from recent announcements of partnerships with cloud service provider RISE and the forming of an alliance of key manufacturers under the banner of the Channel Transformation Alliance, Ingram Micro are pleased to unveil another key strategic partnership.

Matt Sanderson, UK Managing Director at Ingram commented: “Whilst we will take the lead on this market activity we equally recognise that the Cloud Industry Forum has been leading the charge for better practice and transparency in the Cloud. Its Code of Practice is a ground breaking initiative offering end users the transparency and security they need in taking the decision to migrate to the cloud, and an initiative such is this is something we can support and reflects our values and commitment.”

Andy Burton, chairman of the Cloud Industry Forum added: “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Ingram Micro. Not only is it a fantastic brand to be associated with, but equally Ingram are demonstrating that they are fully committed to aiding cloud service adoption by helping the supply chain understand, sell and support cloud solutions. There is a clear opportunity in the market for trusted Cloud Brokers, and I have no doubt that Ingram Micro will be an active participant in championing cloud services and to that end we look forward to working with them to increase awareness among end users of trusted cloud services to in turn raise confidence in choice and use. We pride ourselves on the work we have done since inception in terms of developing a credible, independent voice for the sector. Integral to that is the membership, which comes from a broad range of vendors and cloud service providers throughout the channel. It is an exciting time for Ingram Micro to join us and make a valuable contribution to the future direction of the organisation.”

About the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF)

The Cloud Industry Forum (CIF) was established in direct response to the evolving supply models for the delivery of software and IT services that has expanded well beyond the traditional on-premise method to one that now embraces hosted and/or, pay-as-you-use Cloud solutions.

CIF’s purpose is twofold: To drive a common and public level of transparency about the capability, substance and best practices of online Service Providers (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, Web hosting providers etc) through a process of self-certification to a Code of Practice.  Second, this Code of Practice, and the use of the related Certification Mark on participant’s web sites, provides comfort and promotes trust to businesses and individuals wishing to leverage the commercial, financial and agile operations capabilities that the Cloud based and hosted solutions can offer.  CIF is ensuring the integrity and governance of the self-certification process through regular random audits as well as investigating complaints from parties that challenge any specific participants self-certification status.

Our ambition is to bring business consumers and suppliers of Cloud and Hosted Services closer together in a trusted, sustainable and rewarding ecosystem.
