InnoTrans 2010: KEYMILE shows solutions for telecommunications networks in railway environments

by david.nunes

Hanover, August 19, 2010 – At this year’s International Trade Fair for Transport Technology InnoTrans in Berlin, KEYMILE will showcase its entire range of solutions for dedicated networks of railway and transport companies from 21 to 24 September. The main focus will lie on solutions for optimizing the network infrastructure and improving operational processes.

KEYMILE, one of the leading manufacturers of Next-Generation data transmission systems, will present its various applications for an efficient and secure operation of telecommunications networks of railway and transport companies at InnoTrans 2010 in Berlin. The highlight of this year’s KEYMILE fair presentation in Hall 4.1, Stand 137 will be MileGate, a flexible access and transmission platform providing both Ethernet and native TDM technology from one single subrack. MileGate offers a multitude of interfaces for subscribers and access points via copper wires and optical fibres. This platform has a hybrid backplane with a bandwidth of 10 GbE per card slot.

Due to its modular switching matrix, MileGate is flexibly expandable by adding Ethernet cards (with optical or electrical interfaces) and can thus be easily adapted to various requirements regarding the number of ports.

Traditional services such as analogue telephony, synchronous and asynchronous narrow-band TDM connections as well as X/V, E&M or E1 interfaces can also be offered thanks to its TDM capability. MileGate provides a CEoP Gateway (Circuit Emulation over Packet) and EoS functions (Ethernet-over-SDH) for a smooth migration from TDM to Ethernet. With its variety of services and interfaces, compact subracks and extended operating temperature range, MileGate is appropriate for use both in large central network nodes and decentral outdoor street cabinets.

Furthermore, KEYMILE will exhibit new developments for the UMUX system family, a multi-service data transmission system also used in dedicated networks of railway and transport companies. These innovations include an Ethernet aggregation module. This module expands the UMUX switching and routing functions and permits the direct connection of Ethernet networks and UMUX Ethernet interfaces to PDH and SDH networks. Using a further Ethernet switch module, UMUX also supports Power-over-Ethernet.

At InnoTrans 2010, visitors can also see KEYMILE’s LineRunner SCADA NG, a SHDSL/optical multi-drop transmission system which combines both low and high bit rate data transmission in one compact module. The integration of a RS-232 and Ethernet interface permits a smooth migration. Thanks to the multi-drop function, one single transmission line can be shared by up to 63 modules. Copper wires, optical fibres and point-to-point connections are used by LineRunner SCADA NG for the transmission of remote-control signals between data stations (signals, sensors, video cameras) in fixed line networks.

The trade fair presentation is completed by KEYMILE’s modular multi-service access system XMP1. With a large base already installed in railway’s telecommunication networks, XMP1 is ideally suited for use in dedicated networks requiring the secure transmission of application-critical data.

This system provides a variety of interfaces for voice and data services, Ethernet, video and teleprotection (implementation of the C37.94 protocol).

The services can be transmitted via a SDH/PDH network or via SHDSL links.

XMP1 distinguishes itself by its high availability, support of various protection circuits and low processing times. Also to be seen at InnoTrans is the latest member of the XMP1 family, Next-Generation multiplexer XMP1-LCC. The hybrid system architecture enables parallel operation of Ethernet and TDM technology. The future-oriented design permits a seamless migration from TDM to Ethernet and guarantees a reduction of investment and operating costs.
