27 October 2010 – Experts from across the global telecoms industry met today at the Broadband World Forum to discuss strategies for deploying broadband services in developing countries and high growth markets.
Case studies from South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia were presented to more than 60 industry experts by many of the world’s largest telecoms providers including Telecom Egypt, Telecom Argentina, COMSTAR United TeleSystems, TDM and Zain Kuwait.
Tony Brown, principal analyst at Informa Telecoms and Media, chaired the session which opened to a lively debate on the conference room floor following the main presentations.
He said: “With a room full of the world’s most forward thinking experts in broadband provision in high growth markets, a progressive discussion was bound to take place. The dialogue centred on best practice, and the helps and hindrances currently affecting the provision of broadband in developing economies.”
Technical and commercial challenges for the future, and the evolution of mobile broadband were important themes in the presentations and discussions, as well as geographical and socioeconomic constraints impacting on infrastructure expansion.
The Haya Water Fibre Project in Oman, as well as broadband uptake in Egypt, Vietnam and Argentina were among the existing and completed projects delegates focussed on. The keynote speech focused on key strategies including developing the value proposition and utilising an end-to-end user centric approach.
The High Growth Markets special focus seminar is one of many events making up the world’s largest broadband event – the Broadband World Forum 2010. Thousands of delegates from the global telecoms industry have come together in Paris for the forum which is due to finish on 28 October.
