Interoute named finalist in two categories of the World Communication Awards 2012

Interoute competes for title of Best Cloud Service and Best Wholesale Carrier

London, 26 September 2012Interoute, Europe’s largest cloud services platform, has been shortlisted as a finalist in two categories of the World Communication Awards 2012. Interoute’s Virtual Data Centre (VDC) will compete for the accolade of Best Cloud Service, whilst the company has also been shortlisted in the Best Wholesale Carrier category for Connecting the Information World.

Interoute’s Virtual Data Centre (VDC) is Interoute’s scalable, fully automated Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution. It provides enterprise class on-demand computing, storage and applications integrated into the heart of a business’s IT infrastructure.

It is the virtual equivalent to building a physical data centre, replacing the need to buy equipment, power, colocation, network and manpower. Organisations can pick and choose their machines, upgrade individual components and setup sophisticated networking.

Uniquely, it is also built into the Interoute network, which forms Europe’s largest cloud services platform. This means organisations can decide if they want Interoute VDC to be available over the public Internet, or kept private as part of their corporate ICT infrastructure, or both.

Interoute has also been nominated for the Best Wholesale Carrier award. Interoute serves the world’s leading carriers, all key European incumbents and major mobile operators. Providing unparalleled cross-border connectivity, Interoute is continuously expanding its network into new and emerging markets to meet demand for services across Europe. Interoute’s expertise in building and managing Europe’s largest fibre optic network enables it to bring new products and services to market faster, including Interoute’s innovative Service Provider portfolio of Network Outsource Solutions.

Interoute’s network connects 102 cities in 30 countries, including 21 city networks (MANs) in Europe’s major business centres, nine hosting data centres, 32 colocation centres and nine sub-sea landing stations. It also has the largest European footprint, reaching from Washington DC to Hong Kong.

Matthew Finnie, CTO, Interoute said, “We are thrilled to be in the running for these prestigious awards. Innovation is as much a part of Interoute as our pan European network and Data Centres are. These nominations are testament to this innovation which delivers business benefits for both enterprises and service providers, along with our aim to always go the extra mile for our customers.”

The World Communication Awards celebrate the organisations and individuals responsible for the innovations that underpin the telecoms industry. An independent panel of judges will decide upon the winners, which will be announced at the award ceremony on 13th November 2012.
