Ireland’s RTÉNL Chooses Harris Corporation’s Zandar™ Predator II™ Multiviewer Solution for Network Monitoring Centre Expansion

WINNERSH, England, September 22, 2008 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has installed four Zandar™ Predator II™ multiviewers at broadcast transmission company RTÉ Transmission Network Ltd (RTÉNL). The installation supports the expansion of RTÉNL’s Network Monitoring Centre (NMC) in Dublin, Ireland. RTÉNL needed to significantly increase the number of displays it could monitor simultaneously in its NMC to support additional upcoming services, such as DTT and DAB. To achieve this, RTÉNL chose to replace the existing infrastructure, a combination of TV screens and VDU monitors, with a scalable multiviewer solution built around four Predator II HD32 multiviewers that are driving four 57-inch displays. This setup allows RTÉNL to monitor up to 128 sources and provides a combination of redundancy and scalable display capacity. The multiviewer solution is used to display off-air analogue TV and DTT services from some of the RTÉNL transmitter sites, as well as to visualize spectrum analyzer and digital PPM information. “We selected a Harris multiviewer-based solution because it allowed us to expand our monitoring capabilities in a very scalable and cost-effective way,” said Brian Geraghty, NMC manager for RTÉNL. “Harris worked with our engineers during the entire installation phase, and this helped ensure that any issues around the transition were solved quickly. We were very happy with both the technical expertise and professionalism of the Harris team.” The award-winning Predator II multiviewer is a highly scalable, auto-sensing solution for control and monitoring applications that require a truly flexible architecture. It can be used in smaller control room settings as a standalone system for four to 32 channels. In medium to large control rooms, multiple Predator II multiviewers can be combined as part of a distributed solution. Available in a 1RU or 2RU enclosure, Predator II™ is well-suited to master control, outside broadcast and production environments. Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire media delivery chain. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
