ITU teams up with Kaspersky Lab for ITU Telecom World 2012

Collaboration to help create dynamic cybersecurity agenda at leading knowledge-sharing event

Geneva, 22 May 2012 – ITU is pleased to announce its collaboration with Kaspersky Lab, one of the fastest growing IT security companies worldwide, to co-develop key components of the ITU Telecom World 2012 debate agenda.

Kaspersky Lab, which has a longstanding relationship with ITU and the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT), will contribute to the agenda for high level discussions on cybersecurity at the event’s leadership summit. Issues such as mitigating risks posed by major coordinated cyberattacks at the national level and strengthening international cooperation will also be explored. Kaspersky Lab CEO Eugene Kaspersky will deliver a Keynote speech at the event, outlining the magnitude and global nature of cyberthreats today.

Commenting on the collaboration, ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Touré said, “Cybersecurity is a major challenge that we have to tackle at the global level. ITU is delighted to be able to draw on the knowledge and experience of Kaspersky Lab to deliver sessions on cybersecurity at Telecom World 2012 next October that will bring the spotlight on the critical, wide-ranging and truly global nature of the security issues we face – and how we can best deal with them.”

Speaking about the ITU Telecom World 2012 event, Mr. Kaspersky noted, “Cybersecurity is a fast-growing global concern facing us all, and it is crucial that we use the international platform provided by such a top-level event as ITU Telecom World 2012 to conduct the full and proper discussions needed to best tackle this issue.”

Cybersecurity is one of a number of core topics to be discussed at ITU Telecom World 2012 (Dubai, 14-18 October 2012) on an agenda that will explore the impact of “game changers” – fundamental trends in technology shaping the way we live our lives. Other topics on the agenda include the impact of big data, cloud computing, smart cities, and the Internet of Things. An event agenda will be announced at the end of May.
