Kabel Deutschland Selects ARRIS Edge Qams

by david.nunes

SUWANEE, Ga. September 13, 2010: ARRIS (Nasdaq: ARRS) announced today that Kabel Deutschland (KD) has selected ARRIS to supply its ongoing M-CMTS, Digital TV and VOD deployments going forward, using the D5 Universal Edge QAM. Additionally, ARRIS and KD have agreed to collaborate on advancing support for the DVB-C2 standard, which is a critical component in KD’s plans for deploying DVB-C2 broadcast and VoD solutions in the future.

“By selecting ARRIS as the key supplier for Edge QAMs we will be able to rollout a cost efficient and future proof infrastructure that will enable KD to bring better and new services to our subscribers,” said Wolfgang Zeller, VP Service Engineering, KD.

The ARRIS D5 Universal Edge QAM will allow KD to cost-effectively implement QAM sharing at one of the lowest power consumption rates per channel. It also reduces OPEX through network monitoring and management tools that allow KD to mix and match video services to the evolving needs of their subscribers. High availability and such innovative features as integrated downstream self checking of RF performance make the D5 a natural fit for European operators.

“We are very proud to have been awarded key supplier status for Edge QAM’s by KD,” said Charles Cheevers, CTO Europe. “KD is leading the industry in advancing the DVB-C2 standard and we are committed to collaborating to bring KD’s vision for DVB-C2 to life. ARRIS has worked with KD for many years on DOCSIS and DVB Video initiatives and this is a natural collaboration area to bring more efficiency to KD networks.”
