by Anthony Weaver

Hanover, 15 January 2019 – In October 2018, DASAN Zhone Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: DZSI), a global leader in network access solutions for service provider and enterprise networks, announced its acquisition of KEYMILE. The transaction was completed at the beginning of January 2019 and KEYMILE is now part of DZS.

Building on a strong market position in the US and Asia, the acquisition of KEYMILE by DZS further strengthens its growing presence in Europe. KEYMILE will become the new DZS European headquarters for sales, support, research, development, production and logistics. As a result of this strategic acquisition, both companies will be able to offer network operators worldwide freedom of choice among best-in-class solutions for ultra-fast broadband connections.

The combined offering of products, technologies and expertise gives KEYMILE customers and partners a number of advantages:

  • A more comprehensive portfolio of solutions in the following areas:

– Broadband access

– Ethernet switching

– Mobile backhaul

– Passive optical LAN

  • Synergy in research and development resulting in faster time to innovation and a more robust roadmap
  • The stability and consistency for European customers that comes from continued development and production in Germany

Lothar Schwemm, KEYMILE’s CEO, is delighted about the merger: “The fact that we now belong to DZS, allows KEYMILE to offer customers access technology for their FTTx networks which fits their needs even better. We’ll be able to harness synergy and ensure that our customers receive consistently good products and services.”

“With KEYMILE as part of the DZS family, we can expand the freedom of choice we offer in optical fibre solutions to service providers worldwide,” says Yung Kim, CEO of DZS. “The addition of KEYMILE users in Europe, Latin America and other regions further strengthens DZS in these markets, and together we look forward to further developing these and other market opportunities globally.”
