KEYMILE presents an extension of the LLDP network protocol at the IEEE Conference in London

Hanover, 20 May 2015 – KEYMILE subsidiary HYTEC has extended the Link Layer Discovery Protocol LLDP and is presenting this innovation at the IEEE International Conference on Communications from 8 to 12 June 2015 in London.

LLDP facilitates searching for errors and analysing topology in layer-2 networks of the type energy utilities use for example.

KEYMILE doesn’t just react to new technologies, it actively works on developing them. The company is presenting an extension to the LLDP protocol at the IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) in London. To date, this IEEE-802.1ab standardised layer-2 protocol only allowed information exchange between two or more adjacent devices in one network.

The functionality, developed by the KEYMILE subsidiary HYTEC, enables access to all devices in layer-2 networks. The type-length-value (TLV) elements are the underlying foundations. Typical applications are large, switched wide-area networks belonging to electricity, gas and water utilities. The new LLDP feature, which is already implemented in the KEYMILE LineRunner IS 3400 range and the HYTEC-HY104 family, allows administrators to look for errors and analyse the topology in layer-2 networks more easily.

The details of the way this LLDP extension functions and which no other company can offer are outlined in a detailed technical paper that HYTEC will present at the IEEE ICC in London.

“This extension of LLDP allows KEYMILE to participate in the development of network standards which many companies will benefit from that operate mission-critical networks. In this case, KEYMILE has a competitive edge with technology that helps users to boost their competitiveness,” comments Thorsten Scholz, CEO of HYTEC, a KEYMILE subsidiary. “Our next goal is to integrate the feature into the official IEEE standardisation process”.
