KielNET modernises network with KEYMILE technology

Hanover, December 6, 2011 KielNET is replacing the previous ATM- and TDM-based services with Voice-over-IP services (VoIP) using KEYMILE’s IP/Ethernet technology to do so. As a result, the telecommunications service provider can offer its customers powerful Internet access through existing telephony lines.

Telecommunications service provider KielNET operates 70,000 subscriber lines in Kiel and the surrounding area. KielNET is successively modernising and expanding its network infrastructure with KEYMILE’s IP-based access platform MileGate. The previously installed ATM and TDM components are being replaced by new MileGate systems to allow quicker and more reliable voice transmission and data traffic. MileGate allows KielNET to provide POTS and ISDN services together with ADSL2plus and VDSL2 services at bandwidths of up to 50 Mbps. With the SIP-based VoIP media gateway, integrated in MileGate, customers can continue to use existing terminal equipment with its familiar features. At the same time, KielNET can also migrate in the communication network to an ALL-IP infrastructure. It also offers symmetrical SHDSL services via MileGate to its business customers.

Multi-service access platform MileGate has a hybrid Ethernet/TDM backplane, supports multicast transmission for IPTV, a variety of DSL services and can provide both Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and legacy voice transmission (ISDN, analogue telephone service). Due to the V5.2 interface and the integrated VoIP media gateway (H.248 or SIP), MileGate can implement voice services in legacy telephone networks and IP-based NGN architectures. Thanks to its compact design and wide range of operating temperatures, MileGate is ideal for the use in street cabinets.

“We’ve been working very successfully for many years with KEYMILE”, explains Matthias Winter, Leiter Technik from KielNET. “KEYMILE does not just offer us powerful, technically sophisticated systems, but is also an equally professional partner. KEYMILE’s support team offers very quick response times and are very flexible problem solvers. This is a key factor to us in providing high-quality products”.
